Speed Comparison: Peyton Manning vs Tony Romo

Peyton Manning’s 40 yard dash was 4.80

Tony Romo’s 40 yard dash was 5.01

For reference, Josh Allen (QB) ran a 4.76, very close to Manning, but has 83 speed on his 91 OVR item.

Manning has 51 speed on his 95, Romo has 81 on his 95, and Allen has 83 on his 91.

I’m just confused why they didn’t make Peyton faster. I understand that Manning didn’t really scramble, but neither did Marino and some other qbs.

He ran a faster 40 than Romo by 0.21 seconds and still has 30 speed less.

What do you think? Did Peyton get cheated?

I don't think EA has really any set ways they determine speed. I definetely don't think they use 40 times.

Especially the most recent Maddens where the parody between cards is pretty high. Deion and Moss aren't the Deion and Moss from previous years when guys like Sherman and Brandon Marshall release w/ similar (or higher) speeds.

I would imagine a lot of it's due to keeping his throwing and other attributes high enough to maintain a 95 OVR. Push his speed higher, and the math EA uses to determine his OVR would probably push it 1 or 2 OVR's higher than they wanted.

Manning and Marino are pretty even except for speed, some have advantages over the other, but Marino has the speed advantage by 26! They could at least give him 70 speed. Then, the card would be like Marino, still have less speed, and still be 95 overall

At this point it feels like EA is pulling speed out of a hat

I get that this idea won't work for Legends or players that haven't played recently, but EA partenred with AWS and NextGen Stats. It would be cool of them to design an algorithm that used NextGen Stats speed data for players to set speeds so that they're at least consistent. There would have to be some factor for when the card is released since EA consistently upgrades speed throughout the year. I think just about anything would be better than how they currently do it.

I think they did it to give Manning a weakness. If he got HRM, GS, and Marinos speed, he may be too good. They made Marino much faster than he was last year to make him desirable, but no GS so he's not too good.

This seems very possible.

Just very interesting because of his release, even with GS. Almost makes him unusable

That being said, Romo has slinger and better speed than Marino
