Hey guys. new Madden player here. Grinded the hell out of CFB25 ultimate team with a 94 ovr team, and thought id buy Madden while it was on sale. Got the game yesterday and put some money into to get to a 90 overall team. Currently with Aaron jones, the upgradeable drew brees and Nubin as my best players. As this game is a lot different to CFB with x factors and gameplay. What do you guys recommend in terms of formations, budget beasts and x factors for a new madden player?

Hey there, welcome! Happy New Year. I got suckered into the MVP bundle this past summer, but mostly only played CFB for the MUT rewards, so I am definitely not the best person to give you a direction comparison, but after logging a 1000+ hours in MUT the past few seasons, i'm quite capable of detailing the finer points of this buggy ass, inconsistent mess of our beloved franchise. Big John must be rolling in his grave to see the steaming pile this has turned into.
Anyhoo, it's only playoffs, but we just got done having a ~month of what essentially amounted to end-game MUT (in December). Josh Allen's MUTmas LTD was better than every single Golden Ticket i used last year. General rules apply to Madden gameplay, such as --> Speed (and height) kills. Coins are king. However, stats barely matter, especially not as we enter the end-game. Abilities are EVERYTHING. It is difficult for me to over-state that. For example, a 91 OVR with relevant abilities is going to be superior to most 95-96 cards. My advice would be to learn what abilities even work, versus which are broken or a straight up waste of ability points (AP).
Starting with this fantastic Abilities Tier list. For QBs, you DEF want Gunslinger, due to the constant pressure you'll face from opponents, if you can't get the ball out quickly, nothing else matters. Velocity abilities (Set Feet Lead / Pass Lead Elite) aren't as impactful as in past years. Guess that's irrelevant if you haven't played before.
- Best Offensive abilities in M25
- Best Defensive abilities in M25
Rather than me continuing to ramble on, please feel free to ask some specific (or general) questions and the community will do their best to guide you in the proper direction. Thrilled yer here, great time to join. I started around this time back during M23 cycle, have been a full-blown MUT addict ever since. For better or worse. Game is 100% pay to win, but it's possible to field a competitive squad on a budget, if you know what yer doing. Abilities, abilities, abilities.

And also in what positions should i definitely have backups
Grind the new playoff string, than legend solos for tokens. The legend ones are super quick and you'll be able to get 4 94s in about an hour from tokens. There isn't wear and tear as much as cfb, so backups maybe a decent 2nd back, nothing too wild, just serviceable. Good luck man!

Thanks a lot!!
Not likely to be like last year but possible, the Super Bowl promo last year was absolutely insane, however, outside of the Christmas promo, there really hasn’t been a game breaking promo TT. Maybe Halloween but I wasn’t active for that promo as I was busy with school and saving money. I would say 50/50 chance the SB promo goes crazy Like last year. Personally, I think the current playoff promo is kindof mid, I won’t say weak but def a bad follow up to the Christmas promo that was insane. If you are going to spend, I would advise to wait for SB, last year there was a bundle that gave 100% LTDs. Also, can’t really base this year off last year. Have fun tho. Lots of the out if position christmas players are fun.
Great stuff peatrick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you
-discounted/free Ability's/x-factors that START or STAY on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A.R.E.A.M
then:
-theme team that's maxed out.
-strat cards fully optimized.
-there are no back ups, all slots are important, especially for special teams.....hit power/blocking.
-don't overpay for cards, be VERY patient.
- use mut.GG for everything.
-watch youtube videos that are most recently uploaded, sub and notis.
-do dailys and challenges, take advantage of all free content.
-don't buy packs with coins right now.
-fine print: Traits matter more than you would think.....sometimes more then attributes.

Sadly, the game is very much pay to win. The offline Solo grind rewards are terrible, but probably start with Legends, always take the extra Token from weekly Solo Challenges, then save those up until you have 25 to build a complete set for a legit 94+ OVR player for your squad.

Mostly use those backups to build out your favorite theme team(s), 20/40 gives +1 SPD and full (for now) 40/40 gives you +2 SPD.
AKA (the original, not the newer AKA icons) are also good for earning full set, but they're a bit outdated, as promo has wrapped. HOWEVER, they are some of the only cards in game that get X-factor type abilities that start ON. This is a very big deal. If you have to activate an ability through in-game objectives, it's probably not worth the AP investment.

Thanks man, how do i get the 94s i only see up to 88-91 token exchange in the sets
