Having a 99 catch stat means nothing

Good day, everyone

 I was looking at the golden tickets and some of the new promo cards and saw they were too expensive  so I decided to go back a few promos now that the cards are a little bit cheaper and have acquired a few WR’s that have 99 catch or some where very close to it and yet when I went  into a game i continued to see the same amount of drops if not more because of a knockout ability  

so my question is what is the point of showcasing a  99 catch stat when the reality is it’s not really appearing as the stat indicates which I would assume 99 being the highest which would then indicate a perfection or close to it, and should have no issues catching the ball, especially when you are also adding certain abilities to help catch the ball which that too seems foolish.

99 plays the same as 90 and this game plays off abilities

Yeah, KO's will continue to dominate until you light up Max Security or until it becomes available as an ability. Go to the ground when you catch if you don't have space after the catch. I've had some ridiculously late knockouts lately. Those especially sting.

Stats never matter.  Do your players have abilities which enhance (or simply enable) them to perform their basic function on the gridiron?  If yes, they may have a chance to catch the ball.  If not, probably screwed.

EVERY quarterback in the entire game requires Gift-Wrapped, this basically grants all skill position players "Acrobat" which will allow them to pull off all the random diving catch animations that we're seeing constantly.  Without this basic 1AP ability, no matter if it's September, May or June -- the game will find a way to cheat us.

This is a very common issue that new and old players alike tend to make -- we all want to hope or assume that stats actually do something, but alas, they do not.  All the morons arguing over Play Recognition or any other meaningless stat in the comments section of EVERY single new card reveal are barking up the wrong tree.  No amount of debate or ongoing discussion seems to put this to rest.

Stats are completely meaningless, the game operates off of minimum thresholds, as others have tried to explain, in many/most instances, 90 will play roughly the same as 99.  There is no "perfect" anything in the current state of Madden, under EA Orlando / Tiburon, there is only a buggy inconsistent mess of our once great and beloved franchise.

Yes, but you don't need an ability to engage the possession catches.  Simply click on to your reciever and press "X" button to go down before you take a hit.  All of the new Theme Team Surge players should have this available.

It's one (of just three) abilities in the entire game which will grant insta-wins off the snap, to ensure you beat Man Press attempts, even against Bottleneck.  These are; Double Me, Max Security & Rac `em Up.  These abilities are not particularly great for what they describe, the primary function is to avoid getting pressed into the dirt.

I think AKA The Judge has had 1AP Max Security for months, but nobody runs it, because it's not going to "override" KOs.  Quite the opposite, it's still going to lose in 90+% of encounters, the ball will fall to the ground after a pass break-up.  Just learn to switch on to your receivers before the pass arrives... with some practice, you can learn to throw your recievers open, often by pass leading down/out and away from the defender, then clicking on and coming back to attack the ball, Aggressive catching before a defender has a chance to make a play.  Competent users will Switch Stick to take these opportunities away, but you should still find some success with this method.

If you wanna get ultra-cheesey, you can look up short videos on how to Rocket Catch which can be abused to pull this off over and over and over.  Streak + rocket catch is the only pass you need to master to have success in contemporary Madden.

I thought I had read that Max Security does beat KO's. So it does... something different than what it says?

I'm not even expecting 'always catches', just, 'not always unable to hold onto the ball after even two steps'.

 I found this very informative and I agree with everything you had said here I just feel on the gaming aspect. Why try to entice everybody with these  overalls throughout the  year when they mean nothing , like you said 

it’s all about abilities.

I'm sorry you cannot understand how possession catches and players with the specific Max Security are only tangentially related.
