So it's Sunday right? No football..just kinda hanging out..seems like a perfect day to play some MUT/CUT..except I've done all my weekly objectives until reset..so the will to play strangely isn't there. Which brings me to my topic: do you guys play this just to play it? I know there are H2H rewards/House Rules, etc..but is it REALLY worth it if you arent advancing a field pass? I feel like I'm putting time into a game for little to nothing since they gate keep XP now..maybe it's just me.
been playing madden before there was a field pass, so my field pass being complete doesnt stop me from playing h2h as usual. plus the way you explained how you view mut, that means your only motitvated if theres something to chase and you dont play h2h for the sport of it.
Sometimes I play h2h, sometimes just play retro bowl
For us really bad players, the house rules game is actually fun. I might have lost a ton of times (and probably dished out enough power for many others to buy as many 96 players as they could ever want), but I actually find the 6 v 6 game refreshing. The main problem that EA needs to do for these online games is to have more that are short. I also like it strangely if the rewards are not overpowering as it keeps out the sweats (most of those on this Board :) ).
Try to. I’m a H2H merchant because I like the chess match aspect but it’s hard to enjoy it now when the he current meta on defense forces you to deviate from the play-style you want.

Playing cheese over and over for a few thousands coins just isnt worth my time, maybe it is worth yours. The game itself isnt as fun as it used to be, just my opinion. Not fun enough to play "for the love of the game" as they say.

I really enjoy the competitive nature too, it just feels like maybe its not so competitive anymore and just who can run the most pro player cheese

Whenever i run out of things to do in MUT, i tend to take out my frustrations beating up on n00bs and other random scrubs via the Playstation Tournaments. The competition is fairly weak, so it's trivial to stack enough of those $5 gift cards to pay for my next game. Although there's tons of grifters and shit just wasting people's time, be aware. It also helps me to meet some newer players, so anyone who acts liek a real human being and shows even mild interest in the game of football, i try to bend over backwards to help share team building (or general football tips / Madden knowledge).
The broader community is and remains toxic as hell. Ranked play has been absolutely miserable, especially lately. I have no desire to suffer through three or four dozen games for a Cornerback who will be outdated by the time we get him in our binder. Not making that mistake again. I used to "fear" those Top 100 teams / uniforms, but i've quickly discovered it's NOT the dudes who are amazing at the game who manage to climb that Leaderboard, it tends to be dudes who figure out how to play 300-400+ games in a cycle that find their way up there. I simply cannot compete with unemployment. Maybe they've got that one cheese play they rely on to propel them to victory, but calling the same stupid RPOs or double-pass and hoping to trick most morons isn't fun for me, as you originally pointed out.
We're officially in MUT Season, but simultaneously have run out of things to do. It's going to get worse before it gets any better.

Thank you, was literally trying to hammer out a response, but couldn't state it so clearly and simply as you did above. And there's no maybe about it -- that is without a doubt the current reality we're faced with. Who has the highest tolerance for cheese. Who can suffer through hundreds upon hundreds of "Ranked" games to climb those leaderboards.
Beyond the PSN Tournaments, i've mostly just been playing squads. Seriously debating selling my team. Your original point is so ridiculously valid, if it's not fun, why the hell am i still doing it? Bad habits / addiction, that's why. Onwards and upwards, friends. There's so many legit good games out there, I need to go take a good, hard look in the mirror and do some soul searching or self-evaluation to figure out if this is worth it to me. I think the answer is obvious, but not sure i'm ready to face the music.
Yes and no. I play H2H regardless of the promo/season field pass. HOWEVER, I doubt I would play nearly as much if there weren't rewards for winning.

well your last line sums it up perfectly, you dont play for the love of the game anymore so thats the problem because cheese has always been a thing in madden and coins became a thing in 2010. you need objectives xp field pass to enjoy madden so you've become burnt out. id still play h2h regardless whats awarded madden is still fun to me and i get frustrated with it as well but i bought it to play h2h and nothing else. also im not saying you do but if madden is all you play then its easy to lose the motivation to play without objectives etc.

It's not all I play by a long shot, but other than Crucible in Destiny 2 this is the only competitive game I play (other than college 25)
I play for Shiggles.
winning is nice but with how this game is even winning isnt fun sometimes

i just like to open packs, so the find in solo challenges and solo battles doesn’t stop
