It’s gonna be different for everyone but for me personally I sell out for this promo. I usually get the holidays off work, I spend all my coins on the ghosts, plus whatever theme team I’m using and buy all the presents and see how many shiny new Ltds I can get. This is peak mut season right now.

Playoff promo is generally pretty mid, and Super Bowl is cool but that’s when the all 99 cheese bs starts, and when that happens I’m out until I come back and try to do rookie premiers. 

Prior to December I’m just very selective. I don’t jump theme teams, I don’t chase meta cards. I don’t buy Ltds (unless they’re reasonably priced). You really don’t need to do all that. Each promo has its own ups and downs, I try to buy cards 10% less than whatever current market value is.

Thank you for your response. It appears that some individuals enjoy engaging in disruptive behavior online. I was simply curious as to why some people choose to retain their virtual currency, under the impression that it will maintain its value until the next iteration of the game.

Tbh it depends if you’re playing this game competitively or not.  At the comp levels you need every advantage and the alternative to saving coins is spending big time/money.  Otherwise, I suppose you could argue for not hoarding said coins.  For me, I like to have the ability to purchase any card I like the day it drops (although I rarely do).  The stuff like presents, sb promo, mf, etc is where I prefer to spend so I save my coins for those so I’m ready and able.

A lot of users avoid spending coins below a certain minimum to ensure they can maintain a "coinstack". I made around a million coins today through a variety of transactions, and crested 96 OVR with my lineup long enough to update my binder. I then promptly sold the Ronnie Lott that got me there, making about 100,000 coins on the flip, and getting me back above 10 million. You simply cannot have that sort of versatility when you're trying to navigate MUT with a half-million coins.

Coins are the currency that doesn't get killed by inflation: As the cost of training drops throughout the year, the cost of higher OVR items today ends up being what an item with an OVR 2 points lower cost about a month ago. So to summarize, yeah, I hold onto my coins, as having currency is the only way to buy on the dip, and only if you buy on the dip can you have a position that can reasonably sell high in the near future.

This also brings us back to the card you want that you waited for. It could be a complimentary card or an unbranded card with comparable attributes at a lower cost, which is what I find perplexing. There isn't a significant advantage in Ultimate Team. It's akin to choosing Target over Walmart, or perhaps more accurately, a name brand versus a store brand. That's why I say no need to hold on to coins, no one gets advantage in ultimate team, if your team is up to date, you will almost never get pack luck. It's basically keeping everyone at the same level. It all boils down to can you play this game or not cards don't matter, too much rng. Hope I didn't say too much.

Right now, Ronnie Lott gets two free abilities, whereas Zero Chill Mays gets one (he's my SS), and Bates gets none. Therefore, Lott is the better player by a mile. If we come back around to this after the Zero Chill period ends and the 0 AP abilities "thaw", maybe you have an argument.

Free bates even on the theme team can’t hang with mays or Lott 

 Doesn’t mean you can’t still win with him, but he’s a far inferior card

I have no clue why I do it. Every year, I'm stingy with my coins.. I never buy a card over a mil with the fear that it drops by half the next day. Maybe I'd be more willing to spend it if I played H2H more than I do. (I only really play Ranked when there's a card I want) 

I end every Madden with a 99OVR and 10+mil in the bank when I delete it, and it pisses me off every year. lol

gotta be able to do a mix of both, if you are constantly chasing the meta theme team or new cards you'll constantly have no time or no coins and possibly even be spending a lot of irl money. If you stick to a theme team though, it makes it easier to stack coins for when your team does get cards, and is it really worth saving 100k by waiting a week to play with a card you want?

Well I mean switching to a new TT isn’t even expensive tho
