I'm not sure how much you know about criminal law. In the statutes that outline the law, there is a description of the offense, whether it is robbery, homicide, kidnapping, arson, etc. Part of that description includes adverbs that state an individual knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully does whatever it is that is outlined in the statute. In order for a prosecutor to secure a conviction, they must satisfy the burden of proof that beyond a reasonable doubt, "an individual knowingly, willingly, unlawfully.... "

Technically committing an offense that you didn't know was against the law isn't illegal. You just have to convince a jury that's the case..

This is ramblings that are maybe only partially relevant to the thread.

The getting banned for purchasing a card at a price too far out of normal ranges I am ok with. There should still be an appeal process that involves human communication and verification. Especially if normal values haven’t been established or there is limited supply. If it’s against the rules to buy a card for 10 million coins why do you allow your users to do it? That seems a lot like entrapment and maybe the most obvious middle finger to us. Treat me like shit? Fine, I can’t expect any better from anyone but know you will get the same from me. Kindness and respect? Also reciprocated. Their fight against coin sellers and EAs other immediate small minded money grabs is destroying the game for the rest of us. Sorry I should clarify. The coin sellers they either don’t own or are not in cahoots with. Who doesn’t love a good cahooting?

I wouldn’t say nobody cares and nobody is doing anything. Many people, myself finally fully included, have at least taken the first step to stop handing over $$ when we don’t have to. It is hard to come up with other things a single person can do. I’ve taken some time off since the Super Bowl promo for this reason and because I was disgusted by it. I also have had to travel a lot for work and I’ve got some upcoming Spring Training fun. Normally I would still play a lot in my free time but seemed like a good way to additionally express my displeasure. Aiming to make it to March 1st. Some people have said this makes little difference but I believe it can. Uninstalls, not updating and not playing the game are all very divisive metrics in the gaming industry. I imagine engagement numbers dropping is bad in the eyes of the NFL and may well be a determining factor in EA getting their extension. How are you going to continue to make a billion dollars in live services if player numbers continue to Decline year over year? I think the NFL cares because it’s their brand and their future.

Wouldn’t absorbing some loss be better than the potential loss of your rights to produce/sell a product and the continued loss of your customer base? Loss leaders are a thing. Costco has been selling a pop and a hot dog for a $1.50 since 1985. Little bitty baby thinking. Maybe EA is just tired and cranky. Let’s give ‘em a nap. Ok I’m done. Feeling better.

Probably a very poor attorney if that's your attitude. I am also an attorney. A very successful one, in fact. What I stated is absolutely correct. You must specialize in tax law or something...

If the law says "knowingly", that's where you get into establishing premeditated motive, which in turn can alter how the jury is directed to view a case. I'm not sure what successful practicing attorney would argue that someone didn't violate the law because they didn't know they were violating the law. If you crossed the line, you crossed the line.

If we're not arguing a specific statute or case here, this is probably a dead-end argument for both sides.

I love those sovereign citizens in court videos. You have to be some kind of delusion to believe your personal recognition of authority would be a determining factor in that authority’s ability to enforce its will on you. That’s probably offensive to somebody and I’m not talking about MUT anymore. Oh well

In cases of fraud, intent has to be proven. Maybe you should take up the case against EA. I'm sure you'd win with your extensive knowledge of tax law. 🤣

You can draft a strongly worded letter to EA legal and hope for the best. Probably shouldn't admit out loud to violation of Terms of Service, but those are all absolutely bullshit rules anyway. We have no rights, EA is daddy and does what they want. Fuck them and their fucking illegal casino for literal children. Those pig fuckers should be jailed.

I've never actually heard of anyone getting their coins wiped. EA always threatens to do that, but i've only seen folks lose access to the Auction House -- they'll send an email saying "we're going to wipe your coins" but i've been banned more than once and not lost any coins in the process.

And don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong if you were actually helping out your lil bro. But yes, EA Legal is the only recourse and they may simply ignore your attempts. Best case scenario, they could overturn it. Tell them you want to go to Binding Arbitration (as their own terms of service set out) and pretend you'll go through with the process. They're lazy, no attorney wants to sit through years of law school to have to deal with our video game problems. Use that to your advantage. Just my two cents.

Can you please explain to me how the coin wipe process goes? If you "shared" coins, what does that mean? Did you just log on one day and POOF, 3M were gone? i think your brother probably lifted them and "forgot" to mention it to you, heh. Obviously i know nothing and can only speculate, but i'd be curious to know more. I have a template somewhere you can try to use if yer serious about sending a letter. Costs about five bucks to send a certified USPS letter, with delivery confirmation.
