I just spam it, usually get 1 a game if lucky 2 maybe 3

It works well for me when I have the better angle on the runner and I will hold L1 and R1 for the cpu assist while stripping. It seems to help. Also release R1 right before you are making the tackle and you will see him follow through with the punch. I knocked 4 balls out in one game doing this.

had no idea really how to do it other than pressing the button lol
in my entire madden career I’ve only stripped the ball like twice in h2h games lmao

There isn't really a science to stripping the ball, unfortunately.
Timing can help if you use the mechanic just prior to making the tackle. The angles at which you initiate the strip and situation in game is important as well. You'll get more forced fumbles if the ball carrier is being held up from another player at the time of strip.
Tackle rating is also important when stripping the ball. The higher, the better. I believe the threshold for the best chance is 90 or above.
