I would be okay with changes to Solo battles this week if there was more content, but it seems that they are using solo battles to replace regular content from last year and the current reward structure of solo battles isn’t worth my time.

Money. People will buy more bundles just to upgrade their favorite legend players for reduced ap which in my opinion is not that great of a discount.
The market on these cards will stay up and possibly continue to rise. Especially when later down the road another legend is put out to go into the set which will increase the market value even more.
