Slammer, I love your optimism!!   I know that you are "in the know", so I will definitely trust your opinion on the subject.  As I said, I could care less who wins, but it seems odd that they don't have an alternate lined up that could log in and play virtually with the guy that is present in the building.  Not saying they should fly an alternate to the site, but at least have one lined up to play.  Definitely not fair that one guy gets a free ride to the Championship round, while the other guy has to play 2 games to win.
