Which defensive position should have x factors and abilitie?
Edge Rushers and Dbs are the most important positions to put abilities on.
I put an x factor on my cb1 and cb2 and sublb then I do normal abiltys on edge rushers, S,cbs and sometimes lbs. Just all dependes on the players you have and what their discounted abilties are.

Honestly, right now with all the free abilities, you can do this. I think I have an ability on every starter on defense currently. I have 21 players on defense with abilities currently including my users.
It also depends if you play MUT online.....you can put pass rushing abilities on your edge rushers ; they can be offset by edge protector on the opponent offensive tackles.....I also have under pressure, defensive rally, and el toro on my defensive tackles all for 0 AP. Definitely need abilities on your secondary - CBs, safeties, and SubLBs. I don't run many sets that use actual LB's but if I do I have free lurker on 3 of them - Brooks, Nitschke, and Romanowski...plus Speedster on Micah.

I do have a full 0 ability line up as well Im in the middle of updating now that ZC is over too.

Yah I actually do something similar. I made a couple of changes since this screenshot (Clowney is backup to Smith, Thomas Davis is a backup now, etc) but you get the gist.....

The only positions on my defense that don't have at least 1 ability activated are my LOLB, ROLB, and MLB 2 and 4. Everyone else has at least 1 thing active on them thanks to all the free abilities and/or 1 AP abilities you can get. Only reason my OLBs and back up MLBs don't have anything active is due to them not playing in my scheme so they don't see the field anyway.
If you play Man to Man, MRKO, DRKO and Pick Artist are in insane combo. If you run zone, DOZK and Pick Artist are nice as well. Any free abilities like 0 Pick Artist on your SubLBs or pass rushing abilities for 0 AP work too. For X-Factor, I've seen Universal Coverage or Shutdown on CBs or Safeties
It's very scheme-dependent, but most people run some element of knockout abilities mixed with pick artists/tip drills (can usually get these for 0 AP) and then inside stuff/double-or-nothing to help the line. And then activate as many people as possible with 0 AP abilities if you can, abilities drive basically everything this year.
