Why did they screw up the 3-4 d?

I liked to mix in 3-4 with linebackers in coverage and it's all jacked up now.

It is starting dt 1, dt 2 and dt 3 on the line. It has the edges in coverage, the lolb and MLB 2 are no longer in the lineup at all. 

I can't even run this if I don't want players out of position with chems no longer counting.

I mean in a 3-4, the OLBs are the rushers. Same as the DEs in a 4-3. So they haven’t messed it up. You just like to play it in a way that isn’t the traditional 3-4 way. But I get your frustration. 

I mean you could change your REDG and LEDG specialists to coverage players. Or see if there are any packages you can change to that sub in WILL and SAM to those positions.

Specialists arent working at at all in my 3-4. They aren't on the field, just like the Olbers are not in the field. 

I mean it has literally never been done this way in Madden until now. Not to mention they have the dts 1-3 on the field as well.

And as far as using the olbs as rush ends that would be fine, but they no longer have that option as secondaries for chem reasons either. Same as edges used as dt.

That’s strange, I’ll have to have a look at it when I’m next on. Is it all 3-4 or just certain formations in 3-4?

Sounds like they have the 3-4 actually working correctly but you’re trying to run more of a 46 or mixed D. The positions are just different this year. Just know what you need. You need 3 DTs, one of them being in the NT specialist position. Then your edges will properly be the OLBs in a 3-4. Sam/Will won’t be used. It’s different from previous Maddens but it is much more realistic. Your Nickel/Dime packages will generally be the same in a 4-3 with your specialists making up the D-line and sub LBs.

Slight correction, but I'm pretty sure it's prioritizing whoever you have at NT on the specialist page as your most interior DL and then grabbing your next two highest DT from your defensive lineup, which makes sense. A 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT are very identical. They're doing this because they decided to eliminate that distinction this year. 4-3 DT and 3-4 DE are now the same position: DT. They did the same for 3-4 OLB and 4-3 DE. It's just EDGE now, which is actually a really nice feature actually. In year's past, if you wanted to use someone like Myles Garrett in your 3-4, who has traditionally been a 4-3 DE, you would've had to play him out of position at OLB for him to be on the edge. What I don't like about this change-up is them overcomplicating the linebacker position. It really just needs to be LB instead of MIKE, SAM, and WILL because as far as the video game works, they're all basically the same position. Separating the linebackers from MLB/OLB to M/S/W just recreates the same problem the defensive line had. If you want your second MIKE or your starting SAM to show up on the field in your base 3-4, you have to play them out of position or sub them in because the game just plays your MIKE1 and WILL1. Same shit, different day with EA in terms of one step forward, one step back. They should keep the DL rework but then rework the LBs to function similarly.

Ok, I'm getting what some people are saying, but still not possible to play with my two line backers and use what used to be olb as edge rushers and not get torpedoed on team chems or chems in general.

I have to have multiple players out of position with no secondaries available and it sure seems they didn't think any of this through.

Can you not just sub the players you want at the start of the game?

So I should have to sub out 4-5 players every time I start the game and want to jump into a different formation? 

That should be what they program into the specialist tabs. And maybe think about loosening secondaries when you make random changes.

Mate I’m not saying you should have to, I’m suggesting a work around. Unfortunately for you and me, I don’t design the game my friend.

I agree. I want to play 3-4 with my DT1, LEDG1, AND REDG1 as my 3 lineman with all my 4 LBs: MIKE1, MIKE2, WILL1, and SAM1.

Even in a base 3-4 defense, I can't get it to work.

Here's what I did to make it like the old 3-4, even though it's stupid and wasted team and other chems.

Will 1: MLB 1

Mike 1: MLB2

Mike 2: Not used

Sam: Not used

NT (Specialists screen only): DT 1

DT 1: EDGE Right

DT 2: EDGE Left

Edges: these are the old outside lbs. We can only use Will linebackers here , so I plugged in a couple Wills for these spots
