I agree that there are inconsistencies in how these issues are handled. Of course, Missouri is politically and socially a very different place than Maryland.

There are Kansas City fans that hate that chant, but what are you going to say when tens of thousands of people around you are doing something? And since the Tomahawk Chop is a far cry from an antisemitic pogrom, people aren't going to "stand up" against the Tomahawk Chop in the same way.

This season has been like a dream . My son turns 18 in a few weeks , I can’t tell you how many times we looked at each other on Sundays saying “is this real life “ All he has known is bad teams and scrappy wins to barely squeek into the playoffs.

Kirk actually had some decent seasons here , but shit the bed in multiple big games . I’ll never forgive him for loses to the Giants in 16 and 17’ with playoffs hopes on the line . He ended up leaving and do the same with Minnesota, lol .

Hard to be anything but a game manager when you spend years of your career almost reaching a goal, but falling short because some rando muffs two punts in a playoff game, or because your defense gacks away a four touchdown lead in a playoff game where your star runningback left the game with a concussion and you throw for four touchdowns and almost 400 yards... wait a minute... that's a "game manager"?

Every quarterback is a "game manager". It's literally their job. The problem is that you're not a "franchise quarterback" until ESPN calls you one. If Smith couldn't earn that in the playoff games he won (and should have won), he had to be more than Jayden Daniels has had to be to earn that in only a single season.

I can still remember when Dwayne Haskins was going to be Washington's "franchise quarterback".

I just find it interesting that the title gets conferred on players with one playoff win and a winning season although surrounded by a quality roster and a good head coach. And you get on the other hand a guy drafted by the worst team in the league coached by a terrible head coach who got fired, replaced by a guy who got fired, replaced by a guy that coached one win, and finally replaced by a guy that Wally Pipped him for one of the league's biggest and most irresponsible laughingstocks at the position. His career ended prematurely due to a catastrophic injury suffered as Washington was starting to look better than they ever looked with Griffin or Cousins.

Smith is a complicated case. It isn't appropriate to compare his case to guys that had committed ownership, committed coaches, and a roster worth speaking of long enough to put a dent in the post-season and cement a legacy worth remembering. Smith was always asked to do more with less. Few "franchise quarterbacks" ever worked with as little as Smith did.

Smith had Reid and the same weapons Mahomes had and he couldn't win with them. I'm not sure what you're trying to say with Alex Smith here. I mean, he wasn't a bad QB but he couldn't win the big game and was always limited offensively even with weapons.

It doesn’t matter who’s on the roster if they’re not on the field. Double check the players that made it to the end of some of the big games he didn’t win.

He had a “weapon” in Ted Ginn in 2011. If Ginn hadn’t been injured a week before, Kyle Williams isn’t on the field to muff two punts in the NFC Championship Game. The narrative would have been completely different if that game didn’t end the way it did. Smith’s offense actually out-scored Manning’s offense on a per-drive basis that game. Manning Light will probably be a Hall of Famer one day, primarily because he got his second ring on a gift possession in overtime.

If Smith gets to finish the 2012 season, the 49ers‘ playoff run could have ended with a ring. But hard to know for sure. Suffice it to say, Smith never had with the Chiefs what he had with the 49ers, because the Chiefs were burdened by dead cap money and a certain defensive coordinator who didn’t get fired despite gacking away big game after big game until he cost Mahomes a chance at a Super Bowl. And, of course, Washington was a rebuilding team whose offensive line just wasn’t good enough.

Smith’s been out of the league for four years now, and he’s not coming back. It’s a shame his career ended the way it did after all of the other terrible breaks he got everywhere he played.

It did. It had as passing-down weapons Vernon Davis (clutch player) and Sorry Crabtree. After that, a lot of guys that were undistinguished in the league.

Smith had two quality weapons in the passing game very briefly during his last two years with the Chiefs, but one or the other would be hobbled in each post-season. The offensive line wasn’t always great in pass blocking. How do you do anything but game manage under those circumstances?

Well, not what I said. My point was simply if your coach calls certain offensive schemes because that’s what the personnel support, what do you do as a quarterback? Smith orchestrated two fourth-quarter comebacks in the 2011 Divisional Championship. When the ball was in his hands that way, he often made plays. But he’s a “game manager” because his passing game options were far less than the equal of what Manning Light or other Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks enjoyed.

I'm right there with you!  My son is 18 and has been watching games with me since he was born and we've been saying the exact same thing over these last few weeks.  All I know is that if they beat the Eagles on Sunday, he's either taking the train home (he's away at college), or I'm taking a trip to Pittsburgh!  HTTC!!
