I get the impression that EA messed up and released them too early. Probably things will stabilise once everything (Field Pass, Challenges, store offers etc) gets released in full.

Opened it.  But when I select any captain I get  the "our servers can't process" error and the game crashes.

Just don’t put them into your lineup or upgrade them for the next hour. The game is working fine otherwise.
