This was my method, made about 550/600k coins off the cheap plat 3-step offer. Definitely worth that $5 to afford the final step

I got up to 700k with this and challenges

if you're not getting 20k for every 100 pts you spend, then don't do it.  save it for season field passes. if you can do better than 20k for each 100 points, then consider it.

Wierd thing is I wasn’t pulling 84 or 85 platinums, just a ton of 83’s added up big time.

Season pass and step up platinum offer is what I did. Season pass is well worth it for 1500 points.

Same here around 600k. My platinums werent super inspiring haha. Pulled 85 creed Humphrey from first boom or bust pack. Sold him for 700k last night. I was trying to save all my coins and not spend any early on but that didn't last long lol. The CPU AI seems so much better than last year  solos are actually fun again.
