Yep. The MCS stream was playing the same clips over and over again and they did it for almost an hour until the clown came on to tell everyone what they already knew. I hope nobody watches the stream now and they can all talk to themselves. These companies are evil and one day when we are all gone, there will be videos on them about how bad and corrupt they were so people can know what they did to their customers.

Oh thats a given. Its not just if you restart. Nobody can play any games for the most part. Online OR offline. Because of the dumb way sony has their system setup to "verify licenses" 

In other words, because of how bad their service is, and how poorly its set up, not only when it goes down you cant play like, mut or cod online. You cant play single player only, offline games either.

Makes prolonged outages like this so much worse. Its literally stealing money.

Not to defend Sony specifically, but just being realistic: If you have a system that proves vulnerable to a hacking attack (which is almost certainly what precipitated this issue, as there are too many redundancies to prevent a network-wide outage lasting this long otherwise), the backup isn't necessarily any more resilient against that attack.

When the cause of an outage goes uncited in the first instance of acknowledgment, it's not because they don't know what's going on, especially an hour after the fact. They're just not prepared to acknowledge the cause. There are fewer eyes to care about the cause once the system is running again.

Potentially damaging hack response is my guess here, as it would be in almost all cases.

I did buy the full Playstation 5 console for this reason, and I have Madden 23 and another title on hard copy, so I'd have no trouble playing them. Still, not being able to connect to the broader game is a real hassle.

Inititally, a single BHM Upgrade Token is at stake, and while that probably matters little, losing access to the Super Bowl run this evening will probably mean I have no shot at the sequence of beneficial outcomes that would lead to completing a fifth successful Super Bowl run before the middle of next week.

And none of that is our problem. These companies should have better defenses against shit like that with all the money they steal from us. Got home from breaking my balls at work all day and now i can't play. It's disgusting.

I have the disc drive i just fell into the trap of digital convenience a few years ago. Cant remember the last physical game i bought. Times like this I wish i had a few.

I understand your sense of being deprived of something you paid for, and in situations like this, there's an argument to be made that if money had been reallocated to security, Sony's network might still be running now.

I think in principle imagining that even the largest corporations can be impervious to compromise by hackers shows a lack of comprehension of how much computing power is available to a sufficiently motivated and coordinated group of hackers. "256-bit security" sounds tough, but when you're dealing with a network where practically every client (average Joe Playstation owner) lacks any real security to speak of, you have so many vulnerabilities that really can't be directly addressed; as an administration team, you will always be tasked to mitigate.

Be mad at the hackers. They're the ones that stole a portion of your paid service.

I'm not mad at the hackers, they hack things that they are able to hack. I'm mad at the billion dollar company that allows themselves to be hacked by some no life jerkoffs. It's 2025 and we are close to literally having flying cars and robots doing jobs but Sony can't stop people from hacking?

You really don't understand how much of an upper hand hackers continue to have when they want something bad enough. It's not just corporations. It's governments. If Iran couldn't defend against Stuxnet, maybe you should consider just how vulnerable you are.

Look at it this way: There are some really high-end hackers out there, but they don't just hack everything every moment of the day. For one thing, they need to make their attacks count, because every attack exposes them to detection. Also, hackers are inherently parasitic. If the parasite kills what it's feeding on, it dies too. If hackers really wanted to, they could have done enough damage to where banks wouldn't refund your bank account when it got compromised during your attempts to bank online using a cell phone or computer. Your account, my account, they're nothing. Hackers depend on the status quo being relatively unchanged. So they don't go big unless the payoff is big enough to be worth the risk.

I am not getting into a connected flying car.

One rumor going around is that someone tried to hack into gta6. Apparently someone was stupid enough to upload it (or what people thought was the full game of gta6) and when they got in, sony shut the whole network down.
