Yeah, this scoring is stupid. It should've been the points get added to your score instead of taken away from your opponent. I get they probably don't want people to turn chew clock on and just rely on picking up first downs though.
I just won a game where my opponent drove for the score and the two-point conversion, and after my first first down, housed an interception and got two more points. I couldn't stop him on offense, and now I was down 16. I matriculated the ball downfield and ended up with a modest lead on a touchdown with about twelve seconds remaining. My opponent needed two first downs to win, but he went for the shot play, and got picked off.
The scoring is weird. You definitely want the final possession, but the final possession isn't worth anything if you don't score a touchdown.
