Lamar last year set the precedent when the voters valued wins, team success, and big performances against the top comp as the primary voting factor.  Lamar had the biggest game against who was deemed as the best in the league at the time (49ers on SNF), and had a better record than Allen or Dak who had better statistical seasons.

The voters did the same this year.  They valued Allen's big performances against the best in the league at the time (and he did it twice w/ KC and DET), and his team having more wins than BAL.  You throw in the fact Allen had far less help (no all pro teammates compared to 4 for BAL, and 1 pro bowl teammate compared to 8), and you get the results you got last night.  

They felt Lamar had the better year (as evidenced by his 1st team AP), but Josh was more valuable to the success of his team.

Both had a great year, and both were deserving to win.  The voters just voted the same way they did last year, and that history ended up in Allen's favor.

Completely agree

Better quarterbacks make poor teams much better than the sum of their parts. Already Allen's been to the playoffs six years running. Lamar Jackson's team has been in the post-season six different seasons as well, but he only survived to play in five, and has only three career post-season wins, never winning a game where the opposing team put up more than 14 points. Allen by comparison is 7-6. Too bad the Chiefs have been his Kryptonite: Kansas City never scored fewer than 27 against a Bills defense that just seems to fold at the worst possible time.

Lamar Jackson has a lot of talent around him, and when you put the stats aside long enough to see why the stats accumulated, you have to acknowledge that a lot of quarterbacks could make that situation work. Trent Dilfer did for the Ravens what Lamar Jackson has been unable to do, and that's manage the game.

Going back to MUT 24, it looks like the cards were revealed or dropped on February 17th So we’ve probably got 2 weeks to go.

If it was just about the numbers then there would be no need for voting. And I also think a big reason why Lamar didn't get it is cuz he crumbles in the playoffs. Of course it shouldn't factor in but I think it did.

You mean Reid? The Chiefs have been in the playoffs ten seasons straight. That's longer than Mahomes has been on the team. Reid made the playoffs in his first season in Kansas City, right after the team had gone 2-14. It took years to work through the dead cap money, and firing Bob Sutton as defensive coordinator was something I had clamored for for years. Then the Super Bowls started rolling in.

Mahomes is a piece of the puzzle, and not the guy that makes the Chiefs. He walked into an ideal situation for any young quarterback. His best years aren't being wasted on terrible rosters and idiot coaching staffs.

Listen, Reid is great, a surefire hall of fame head coach, but Mahomes is the guy that makes the Chiefs. This year? It was the refs, but the other years? It's Mahomes. 

Reid has always been a fantastic head coach but he never got over the hump until Mahomes came along, and mind you he had Donovan McNabb nearly his entire Eagles tenure and some elite defenses with the Eagles. 

Mahomes is what pushed him over the top. I promise you that the top 15 coaches in the league have the same success with the same Roster.

Not to mention, Alex Smith was never a pushover. Pretty decent part of their success before Mahomes as well.

So Mahomes has nothing to do with it? Sure he walked into a good situation but you think other QBs would have the same success?

Reid is clearly a great coach, one of the best.  But I think one could say he has a terrible offensive roster.  His RB's are ok, but not great.  HIs has a great TE who is way past his prime.  He has a bunch of has been WR's once Rice went down.  Worthy is fast but is a terrible route runner and has suspect hands.  Mahomes finds ways to win though by extending plays.  I am an old fart and have been around for a long time.  While I am not a Chiefs fan (Cowboys and Dolphins are my teams) Mahomes is really fun to watch.  He reminds of Jordan with the Bulls.  Obviously, Jordan was on another level, but I hated basketball (still do) but I watched the Bulls playoff games because of MJ.  I find myself doing the same for Mahomes.  I love watching Chiefs games because of what Mahomes can do on that field.  He makes the game exciting.
