My last thread just gave me an idea. "Sim" vs "arcade" modes

For awhile I've always said i wish madden could make a mode for the kiddos/casual fans/pros and a mode for the rest of us (the "real" fans) who want a sim/ less cheese, less glitchy mode. 

I rarely even bother mentioning it bc in reality those toxic players would naturally migrate to the mode for us to beat up on inferior teams. But, (and this is why my last thread reminded me of it) what if we made it 5 min qtrs no accel clock? No real easy clock manipulation to add to their cheese and beyond the focus and attention span of the toxic audience. Just a thought. 🤷

I miss salary cap mode. That really forced people to think about who they added to their team since you couldn't have the best player at every position. I think the MCS used to do salary cap too or draft champs. Salary Cap should be in MUT and draft champs should give you better rewards but EA destroys anything that makes people actually have to think for 5 seconds.

Right? Even if they saw a suggestion like this and decided to use it, theyd screw it up.

If you want that mode to be anything like you hope it is, there has to be ZERO (or as close to zero as possible) rewards available. 
 

If you incentivize it at all, the gameplay you are trying to avoid will be in there as well.

Yep. I'm not sure why they just decided to say screw salary cap and draft champs but i really enjoyed them. Both modes made you use players you wouldn't really use which made it fun

I think people are trying to get away from abilities. EA would probably include them in these modes but idk. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad?

If you stripped away the stuff that most comp/meta players use, you would think they would generally avoid that mode.

UNLESS....it has crazy rewards tied to it.  

EA continues to be more tight w/ rewards and coins for the free to play user.  When they bring something out that is a quick and easy way to get them w/o spending cash, people flock to it like a moth to a flame.  Any means necessary.

I'm not going to even pretend to be immune to this and be on my high horse.  I won roughly 20-30 Playoff run super bowls.  Made probably close to 10 million coins.  If I ran something and my opponent couldn't stop it....I ran it every play.  The amount of time and or money I would have to dump in this game to achieve 10m coins just from playing the game would have been ridiculous.  That's why I feel EA can't incentivize it.  If they do, you will not be able to avoid it.

True. I feel like the game is stale at the moment. I do like the Ranked mode since we actually get useable cards from it but idk, just feels like something is missing from MUT.

It's not a great product the past 3-4 years.  You could say longer than that, but I do feel MUT has peaked from the days of 15-17.  I think the mode/game will crumble before we see it go back to where it was.

I knew we as a community were screwed the moment when EA came out w/ NAT cards, and people were generally excited to burn resources to acquire +1 attributes.  I think it was the end of 17 or 18 where they dropped a promo at the end of the year, where you could add cards to other cards and have a better version of it.  This was before powerups.  I remember one of the cards being Jordan Howard, but I don't remember the rest...I'd have to look it up.  This was EA's test to see what they could get away w/, and how to drain coin stacks w/ no ROI.  

I went on MUTHead and was LIVID and warned this was going to be an issue if it continued.  I was crucified.  Ever since then, EA has changed and manipulated ways to get you wanting to spend resources to upgrade, and giving you very little return on previous investments.  I understand this is how anything works in any economy, but EA continued (and continues) to change how the upgrade cycle worked.  You then squeeze rewards, and have little to no option to recoup costs.  Their hope is that leads people to spend cash....and obviously it works because they haven't changed this model.

I am not saying that this is entirely EA's fault....the community can be completely toxic...but, I don't ever get mad at how people play in any incentivized modes.  You can play like a dink to try to get as many free rewards possible, or line EA's wallet.  I would prefer the former so maybe pigs will fly and EA will feel it in their bottom line and be forced to actually LOOK AT THE MODE and how to improve it.

Sorry....I got a bit tangential, but I really feel this is why we see so much of the crap we see now in this mode.  If you would just reward the player for their time spent, a lot of the issues (not all, but a good amount) we have w/ ultimate team would self correct.

There was a H2H event last year that had cooldown on plays. I think that is a great idea to use in this sim mode, which forces players to open up their playbooks and not use the loop blitz every play. Also, get rid of abilities. Bring it back to 3 X Factors only  and non of that baked on sh*t. Let linebackers jump and DBs catch picks based on their ratings.

I agree with everything you said. I remember 17 i think it was where they had abilities for certain cards. I feel like it got bad in 19 when you can add abilities to every card and you needed all the cards to power them up. It took away the uniqueness of the cards and made everybody do the same shit. Rewards were much better back then. I remember MUT Master Sean Taylor in 18 i think? You got his card and i think 250k coins on top of it along with his objectives for more coins. You got rewarded for playing and didn't have to spend to keep up. 
 

Of course, they had money offers but they weren't necessary. You also got NATs back from sets which was one of the best things MUT did imo.

Why on earth you played roughly 100 games for just to get coins and used same play over and over again? Did you enjoy it or did just because you wanted to get coins at video game?

Why you didn’t spend that time on AH instread rathet than exploiting others? You could have made 20mil coins that way.

I wanted the easiest and quickest way to access a mass amount of coins to play the modes I enjoy.  Primarily squads w/ the homie.

If EA didn't incentivize that mode as much as they did, people, like myself, wouldn't play it.

I have worked the market in years past at a fairly decent capacity.  I would have not made the amount of coins investing/flipping/sniping in that same amount of time than winning 8 games in a row 20-30 times.

They got away from both of those modes because they didn't help make money for EA. Same reason they have gotten rid of a lot things in MUT. This new format is forcing us to upgrade constantly or miss out on H2H and any decent rewards. Back in those days, I could get my H2H fix playing MUT draft and my roster building fix with salary cap mode, but now to play any H2H mode in MUT... you need to have the newer cards or get wrecked. Anybody with any sense whatsoever can see this entire mode is designed around spending money. Sure... some of us can compensate by working AH and sets, but they are trying their hardest to fix that too.
