Made a thread last night of breaking down all the crystals that I had which I did. I got tired last night and went to bed before putting them on the ah. All the limiteds I had now are going for 3x quicksell.. I would have been so mad this evening logging in seeing that.

I imagine. Once I saw what this program was like I was like CRAP, because I was also about to grab them just for the boosts.

Because you need older Crystals to complete sets that yield tokens for the latest Crystals.
The crazy thing here is the need to complete sets using LTD's.

Yes and no. If you want to continue using Crystals during end-game, you can use the six past Crystal LTD's to make a pair of tokens to unlock each of the past Crystal player buckets on the Crystal VII LTD. In theory, three upgraded players at WR, RT, and CB would give you simultaneous use of one of each of all six past Crystal chemistry trios.
The total cost for this at present runs about 16,000,000 coins. Not special enough for my budget.
