This is what has helped me.
Abilities: No Outsiders on defensive ends and outside linebackers, Inside Stuff on defensive tackles, Reach Elite on defensive linemen, Secure Tackler on linebackers and defensive backs.
Alignments: You need more than three or four on the line. You'll give up yardage every play otherwise.
Adjustments: I avoid run commit except on must-have fourth downs because it ruins your coverage against the pass, but against opponents committed to the run, I don't pass commit either.
The balance of this game is completely off with the effectiveness of Angry Runs against anti-run abilities. Further, even after I effectively make it difficult to continue running, I ultimately get cheesed by RPO.
run stopping abilities are all countered by SP and vanguards
gonna have to blitz to get sheds
Engage 8, and if that don’t work imma just quit the game because I’m clearly either playing a 50 year old or a 10 year old and if they’re gonna run the ball every play like a dork, it’s NOT gonna be fun time
Most of the modes have very meek reward systems
Not gonna sit there for 40 minutes watching my opponent treat me like a solo challenge. I play to try to have some fun with it, may be an estranged concept for someone who thinks they are a rising MCS competitor

Exactly
4-3 multiple. I'm become a HUGE fan of goalline sheds.

Yeah I run til you do something about it so this was a great laugh. Once you stop it but still zero me, power option typically works like a charm.
Matching personnel is big this year of they go into heavy sets for the run. This means getting more lbs on the field to if they get more tes on the field. Don't be hard headed and switch formations when you see they're eating up your defense.
No outsiders on your edges and inside stuff on your interior is great. I also avoid pressing as that just ensures you're locking your players into their players who probably have blocking abilities. I do bring my safeties down manually to where I think they may run without taking them out of position for the pass.

ok. idc about rewards.
fun seems to be an estranged concept for quitters who only want to play their way. you can't wrap your head around the fact that this is a game and different people play it differently.

U don’t care about rewards? So you’re saying you play for pride yet it’s ok to run the ball every single play and be as annoying as possible by not choosing your play until last possible seconds in hopes that your opponent is bored to the point where they don’t enjoy the game and once they quit, that’s when you get satisfaction?
Play it however u want big guy… but if you’re gonna be annoying and drag the game out by running the ball every play , I will identify that quickly and move on
take your own advice as well instead of being a hypocrite— quitting against tryhards that play 16 hours a day is a method I’ve developed in “my own way to play” so maybe YOU should wrap your head around the fact that it’s a game?
You make a good point, but no one was running before Marcus Allen got Angry Runs.
Running is a part of Football, but Angry Runs is not.
People who complain about the game that's supposed to be a Football Simulator, but somehow became an a version of NFL Street are not morons.
The reason they complain is because they are football fans, and EA has turned the only entertaining mode in Madden into a sci-fi version of Football.
You probably have your reasons why calling the same play every down is enjoyable to you, but I would never call you a moron for doing it.
Wish i could say this were funny, because it's true -- but it's honestly just kind of sad and pathetic at this point. We've got generations of kids who are accustomed to receiving participation trophies, so being forced to actually work for it, let alone play from behind, is a completely foreign concept. Sure, i get it, it's not fun to lose -- but it's Madden, it's trivial for one or two plays to change the entire course of the game. I regularly go down by 14 or 17, being able to claw my way back from behind is potentially one of THE most rewarding aspects of this otherwise bad, buggy ass mess of a game.
Match-making system is horrendous, sometimes we're simply outclassed, but we can use those opportunities to learn and try to improve our game. Quitting at the first sign of adversity is why so many of us never improve. Defense has been extremely difficult all year, but it's fairly obvious when someone has no answer or solution, so they just send the house on every single down, hoping to overwhelm the opponent. I still cannot reliably block some of these meta blitzes (especially not the B-gap engage blitz), but that's why i use a QB who can reliably get the ball out quickly. I understand that's a personal weakness and try to build my squad around that.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I'd MUCH rather lose a close, competitive game than win some one-sided blowout by thirty or forty points. Seems i may be the odd man out, in terms of desiring actual competition, rather than being handed easy wins.
EDIT: sorry, i got rambling and neglected to respond to OP. Stopping the run is one of THE most annoying aspects of this game. Dual Inside Stuff, No Outsiders on both edge rushers (and outside LBs) is an absolute must, then try to shift (and slant) your D-line in the direction that you think the run is going. Having Secure Tackler on your USER(s) is also important, but King Henry is still going to rumble over us. Opponents who are committed to toting the rock can be difficult to stop, or even slow down.

This is the correct answer for anyone not holding to delusions that this game is fair and balanced and represents football.
