Unless/until something changes with this game (which is has not in many, many years) the 1AP investment on Gift-Wrapped will be potentially one of the best value you can find for just 1AP. It basically grants your entire offense the "Acrobat" ability, to ensure they can reliably catch all those diving animations. Without GW, the ball will typically just bounce off their hands and fall to the ground, or they may not animate at all.
No matter if it's September, May or June, you will almost certainly want to spend that 1AP on Gift-Wrapped. Dots will help to ensure accurate (perfect "blue" passes), which can also be achieve through expert practice and timing on that specific QB Release style you are using at the time (be certain you have the Placement & Accuracy type passing mechanic option configured).
Nearly every QB should have the following stack in one form or another, which is widely regarded as the quad/god stack (in order of importance, from most to least -- but the top three are essential, velocity is a nice to have, but it's late in the year, so not difficult to attain):
- Gunslinger
- Gift-Wrapped
- Master Tactician (in the past we could more cheaply build our own "MT" through the combo of Conductor + Backyard QB, which has QB Playmaker + Hot Route Master included in it)
- velocity (SFL/PLE)
