Drake SHOULD have a rare dominant card. I'd say all of this just the same if it were Stafford in question.

The possibility for that still exists.  If Maye gets MVP he will get the dominant card you want - in the interim a free placeholder that will be significantly better than his current card is a welcome sight.

There are legit cases for both Maye and Stafford to be MVP.   All depends on your point of view and maybe a bit of bias thrown in for good measure.
