In today's massive amount of info about the upcoming release of College Football 27 and Madden NFL 27, we got Deep Dive Notes and screenshots from the Opening Drive Twitch Broadcast about changes coming to Ultimate Team. Check out a recap of each new update coming to MUT 27 below:
The New Upgrade System
There will be a new upgrade system for eligible players in MUT 27, where players can choose different upgrade paths. For example, maybe you will want to spend all of your available Skill Points on Gunslinger for maximum pass velocity on Jalen Hurts, while someone else could choose to allocate some Skill Points to Gunslinger and some to Scrambler for a bit more mobility. The goal of the new system for select items is greater customization.

Skill Points and Objectives
Skill Points are required for upgrading players who apply to the new upgrade system. Skill Points can be earned by completing in-game objectives with the player and are tied to those very same player items. Progress on favorited objectives will be visible in the middle of games to help with tracking.

EVOs
If you've played FIFA Ultimate Team lately, then you're probably familiar with the overall concept of EVOs. Basically, EVOs allow applicable lower-rated player items to unlock some of the following:
- New upgrade paths
- New or improved abilities
- New chemistry options
- Increase Max OVR
- Change Archetypes
Some EVOs will be able to be chained together, meaning even longer lifespans for some items and even greater customizations. Hopefully, the applicable player pool will be large, so even if our favorite players do not receive upgrades very often, we may still have a way to keep them relevant on the field. Luckily, we should be guaranteed to do that with at least one player in the next section!

Ultimate Captain
For the first time ever, MUT is going to allow us to CHOOSE our Team Captain from any core player item in the game! Whether you opt for your favorite player or the best option for your playstyle, users will now have significantly more options available to choose from on who will receive continuous upgrades throughout the year on their team. Team Captains CAN be swapped, so you're not stuck if you change your mind later.
Rewards, Ranked, and More
Matchmaking, division structure, and rewards are receiving an overhaul in MUT 27 in an effort to create a healthier competitive space. Lower ranks will remain mostly unchanged, while higher ranks will require better win rates and receive the best rewards.
The Event Pass is being balanced to still reward dominant performances, while also rewarding time spent playing. Hopefully, this means fewer rewards tied to going on 10-game win streaks and more rewards based on total wins. It's no fun having to start from the beginning because your power went out, or one crazy play may have ended a great run.
Also, solo challenge stars will better align with the overall difficulty of the challenge in MUT 27. That means a 1-star challenge should be very easy, while a 5-star challenge should be very difficult.
Gridiron Tokens
If you played CFB 26, then you may already be familiar with the new Twitch Drops system coming to Madden NFL 27. Watching designated streams in M27, such as Good Morning Madden or EA-featured streamers, will now reward Gridiron Tokens in MUT 27 throughout the year, assuming your Twitch/EA accounts are linked. 10x Gridiron Tokens can be exchanged for 1x Gridiron Super Token (to help with Binder space). Gridiron Super Tokens can be exchanged later in the year, but for better rewards than the 11 total Training we were accustomed to receiving with Twitch Drops in years past, such as a Team of the Year (TOTY) player.
EA also teased the return of Madden Live, "but different than how you remember". It will be interesting to see what's planned there for next year.

Which of the new updates is your favorite? Who do you think you will choose for your Ultimate Captain in MUT 27?
