#1 - Are Gunslinger and Pass Lead Elite the same?
Answer:
While both Gunslinger and Pass Lead Elite improve your passing game, they serve different purposes.
Gunslinger speeds up your quarterback’s throwing motion, helping you get the ball out faster. Pass Lead Elite (and Set Feet Lead) increases the velocity of the pass itself, making the ball travel faster once it's thrown.
If you want to maximize your passing potential, using a quarterback with both abilities gives you the best of both worlds.
#2 - How do you stop Y-Sail out of Normal Y Off Close?
Answer:
Y Sail out of Normal Y Off Close is one of the most popular — and frustrating — plays in the game if you’re not prepared for it.
To stop it, we use a hybrid defensive approach:
- Cover 4 shell to the tight end’s side
- Bracket coverage on the slot receiver
- A soft squat zone to take away the deep dig route
This setup is designed to take away every read on the play. Watch the full video to see where you should be with your user — and how it completely bags Y Sail.
#3 - Is Shutdown just Universal Coverage without the KO's?
Answer:
Not quite. Shutdown and Universal Coverage may seem similar, but they serve different roles based on the type of coverage you're running.
Shutdown is most effective in man coverage. You won’t see much benefit from it in zone — it doesn’t improve zone reactions or break on ball.
But if you primarily run man, Shutdown can be a great ability. It essentially combines the benefits of One Step Ahead and Pick Artist, giving your defender tighter coverage and better catch animations in man-to-man situations.
Watch the video to see examples of this in action.
#4 - How do you stop Cheat Flat X Post out of Normal Y Off Close?
Answer:
This is a great follow-up to the earlier question on Y Sail — Cheat Flat X Post is arguably the second most popular play in Madden right now.
To defend it, we use a Cover 3 Buzz Mable/Match concept. The setup is simple:
- Start from a Cover 2 Man shell
- Individually back off the corner on the two-receiver side
From there, the key is usering the right area of the field to take away the post and force the quarterback into a bad read.
Be sure to check out the video to see the exact adjustments and user responsibilities that shut this play down completely.
