Ok so the presents are basically collectibles that you can get (either through the field pass or the training store starting tomorrow). On Christmas Day, the present collectible will turn into player packs. If you aren't online on Christmas (I usually am not so I know this for a fact) the game will still turn the presents into packs, and you can open the packs the next time you're online.

Edit: Did the math last night and I'm up to 25 presents.

Felt like I had more than I do.. looks like ~16 so far, and I'm @LVL 19

- 9 Smalls:

7 from Pack Opening
2 from Objective Awards

- 1 Medium from Objective Award

- 1 Large from Objective Award.. looks like a Large Blue Icee cup with black ribbon

- 1 each: ToTW (Medium), Legends (Medium), Harvest (Small), Blitz (Large), AKA (Small)

Blitz looks like a $tar(mega)bucks Red holiday cup with ribbon on top

I'm just going to keep the free ones I get and maybe roll a little bit if I get the training, until further notice on what's in the presents. The rare ones I think are Ed too tall jones cornerback(the mountain that says "NO-AGG ZONE") and derrick henry QB(The suitcase-looking thing that says "unfinished business").
