Nothing special just wanted to rant. I’ve played 9 ranked games. I have had my PS5 shut down in 7 of those 9 games. Out of those 7 games, I was winning in all 7 with a comfortable position to win.

In my latest outing, I secured a game-sealing interception against my opponent. I had possession with 3 seconds left. Come out of the huddle in victory formation. Then… boom. With a blink of an eye my whole console shuts down and will not turn back on without unplugging the power cord, and plugging it back in.

I’ve taken my PS5 apart, and cleaned the fan. The problem persists. I believe now that the cleaning must be needed deeper than the fan.

I am no expert with this and am now seeking out a repair store. Has anyone experienced this with any game at all? What did you do to fix it?

I am not willing to take the console apart myself.

was it against a PC player? My PS5 shut down at the half in a game that I was winning. It was weird.  I figured it was a glitcher. But, 7 times, sounds like a bigger problem.

That's not a peer-to-peer problem. I was having issues with my console overheating during the past summer. I tried to improve its position to ensure airflow (I think it was in an area that was trapping heat), but I also needed to blow out a significant amount of dust.

You might start with performance settings. Bring your settings down to a level less CPU-intensive, and see if that helps.

Regarding taking it apart yourself, I get that some people are uncomfortable with that. I had issues over the years with my PS2 not reading discs after more than a decade of use; I just needed to remove dust on the lens of the DVD-reader. This didn't require any advanced skills or anything other than safety-related electronics common-sense: Unplug the unit, wear a grounding strap, avoid touching capacitors with hands or tools, don't place inappropriate materials directly on a precision glass lens, every screw has its place, and so forth.

If your warranty has already expired, the reality is that you have nothing to risk with regard to the value of the unit if it is repeated failing, and not only with one title. (If you're using it as a primary media source for entertainment apart from video games, and are not having issues with it in that mode, that also weighs in on this.) There are YouTube videos that can help with this sort of thing. The biggest barriers might be only your self-confidence and appropriate tools.

I never had problems with the Xbox one for over  years. When I bought the current console in 2021, I had heat issues after 10 months. It would shut down multiple times daily and you would hear the fan humming constantly.

After watching Youtube, it was a pretty easy fix. Just had to scrape off the old Thermal Paste and apply a new coating. While testing the results I decided not to put the console in the outer casing so I don't have to re-disassemble it again if the fix failed. Not only did it fix the issue but the console was super quiet.

I don't know if it was laziness or telling myself I like the aesthetic, but I never put the hardware back in it's casing. I figure this will be Maximum air flow. . . But in 3+ years zero issues and super quiet.
