So I started mid way through season 2, mace it to around level 43, noticed i definitely wasn't progressing as fast, but season 3 started within a day or 2 so didnt think much of it.
Now in season 3, ive been stuck on level 43 for like a week and im noticing getting 0 xp for most games/challenges .
What am I doing wrong?

You only get XP for certain objectives, and once you complete those for the week no more XP until the objectives reset. There was a reset today for the weekly objectives, and as @twitchtaxpro stated, tomorrow new Program objectives will be added. Look into this on the fieldpass tab in the game and you'll see the objectives.
