Defensive Help, wrong players on the field

I've noticed when running 3-3 odd nickel defense my lineup has 3 DTs on the field with only 1 edge rusher. This is the same when running 2-4 nickel and basic 3-4. I would rather my 3rd string DT stay on the bench. How can I make it so that I line up with my 2 DTs in the middle, and each edge on their respective sides. It seems like this should be automatic, but has not been the case in game. Something with the specialists?

Obviously I don't know what I'm doing, any help is appreciated.

Run different formations then those. Make sure you change your specialist to the ones you want to play I usually run 2-4 nickel

Pre play subs.
Up on dpad and left or right to select player you want at position. Next play they will be there. I do this in 3-4 every game to sunny in LE/ RE.

Same here it had players not in the lineup playing
