If you have a controller that has paddles/buttons on the back, you can map them to D-Pad left and right. That way you can switch stick off of the D-Line or any blitzer without taking your thumb off of the left stick. It also gives you a very precise left/right switch stick when needed. This is what many Madden pros do.

So an Xbox elite controller( I'm on Xbox) would be worth it to get?

That's entirely up to you. It does help with switch sticking, but I don't know if it's enough to justify the price. It depends how serious you are about Madden and gaming in general.

Thank you. How do I switch stick properly? Everytime I try the ball is in the air and it doesn't switch. If I push the B button it never gives me the player I want and just random.

The B button will always switch to the closest player to the ball. Before the throw, that's going to be the closest player to the QB, so that's not switch sticking, that's just switching normally.
The switch stick allows you to directionally switch players before the throw by pushing the right stick (or D-Pad) in a direction. It will switch you to the next closest player to who you're controlling. It was a new feature in CFB and Madden last year. Here's a quick explanation on what it does:
