Why did they screw up the 3-4 d?

Try messing with the formation subs on the play select screen. I know OLB flip works in CFB, but I think it's DE flip in Madden.

Havent played madden much, but in cut, I like to use the 335 defense in cfb, and I always have to sub the DL out to my edges. Hadnt noticed it in 34, but my defense in cut only has 43 in it.

Anyways youre not wrong about how theyre being lined up. We're used to how it used to be EDGE / DT / EDGE ... with the OLBs on the outside and 2 mikes. Just because they changed the names of the positions doesnt mean they should line up differently

However, this is a realism thing. A 3-4 defense used 3 DT with the inner most being the NT and the EGDE players on the, well, edge. M/S/W Backers are your coverage guys. You effectively have 5 on the LOS and 4 rush. Also you don't need 2 MIKE in the formation because one true backer plays the strong and the other plays the weak. When there are two backers, the strong is the MIKE. Not trying to over-explain, but that's the reason for the change.

Edit: Take the Broncos for example, a 3-4 defense. They have 3 good DTs in Zach Allen (81) John Franklin-Myers (78) and D.J. Jones (77). Then Bonitto (82) and Cooper (79) at the EDGE. The reason you may feel like you're getting screwed on chem is because you're trying to play 3-4 with a team who doesn't have the players for a 3-4 scheme.

I guess it's just a semantics thing. Because in a 34, I would still call them defensive ends in there beside the NT. I totally get what you mean though. With the edges being the actual edge players / olbs we would refer to in the past. Just kind of a weird way to make the depth chart I guess and not really tell people things arent how we are used to

In recent years, the terminology has shifted. The players on the line in 3-4 has been Defensive Tackle at least dating back to 2020 at latest. Braden Fiske was a DT for the Rams last year but Kobie Turner was their NT.

Except Sam's arent in my 3-4 lineups at all. Only two linebackers, the will and Mike 1. The other is always an edge.

And the outside hybrid line backers we've used for years and been able to use in various 3-4 zone coverages and rushing assignments no longer exist, we have to play a will out of position.
