Trying to decide between strategy items and was thinking of choosing the +6 awareness for CBs. This would boost all my CBs to 99 awareness, but what does that stat actually do? And if it increases their reaction speed is it pointless to boost if they already have Universal Coverage and KOs since that too increases their reaction speed?
Basically it effects how the AI controlled character reacts to other players, the field, and the ball. A character with low awareness will have a high propensity to letting the ball or other players wiz right by him.
Blockers with high awareness will be much better at recognizing blockers and attempting to block them.
WRs will have their button fill in a bit sooner, so they're ready for the ball.
Defenders will react better to the ball in the air. A good corner will turn and make the play on the ball while one with poor awareness will let it sail over his shoulder.
So is +6 awareness for CBs the move or +6 play rec for mlb/safeties?

I cannot say for certain, but i believe your assessment and assumptions are essentially correct. Abilities (such as Universal Coverage) should trump any/all stats, ensuring that your DBs react in time to make a play on the ball. The game dumbs out so regularly, it's impossible to truly know what stats do the majority of the time.
I'm super curious to know what you and the community are doing at this late stage in the game for the Strategy items / stat bonuses. After moving on from the ASA OOP stuff, i ended up going back to the +4 Kick Power (purple) strategy item, which boosts Thorpe to max 99. There's gotta be better value out there, but booming a long field has definitely won me games... being able to drill one from 64-65+ yards is clutch. I'm trying to envision how i can utilize any of the others to win more games.
