I don't have a Bloomberg account, so Reuters source will have to do. To catch everyone up, back in January, numbers dropped indicating that yearly revenue was down (by nearly ~half a billion dollars);
Electronic Arts lowered its annual bookings forecast, citing weak in-game spending for "FC 25" and underperformance of its new Dragon Age title amid an uncertain economic environment marked by high inflation.
Madden, College Football and generic Football Club ALL underperformed. Market value and stock price tanked as a result, making EA look weak. Now they're firing hundreds of workers, reducing Apex Legends and Jedi: Survivor teams (although this is EA Entertainment, customer service, etc. and not specifically EA Sports): https://www.reuters.com/technology/electronic-arts-lays-off-hundreds-cancels-titanfall-game-bloomberg-news-reports-2025-04-29/
The company is in serious trouble. Next cycle (Madden 26 & CFB26) won't have PS4 / last-gen console titles available for sale. IMO, there's essentially zero chance the next iteration of College Football will sell as well as last year's CFB25, which was new at the time, thus shattering all manner of sales records. Seems that EA has no plan, they're desperate. None of this is sustainable, IMO... they fully intended to coast on these live service titles, knowing full well they had their monopoly power to throw around.
Be prepared for more pain and suffering, but this time it won't just be us, the player base. Think carefully before you drop any pre-orders. Now is the time to send a message if you wish to vote with your wallet.
