99 Ray Lewis at MLB1 doesn't see field time? Can someone help?

He rarely shows up for anything other than special teams. I have J.O.K. as SUBLB1 and 99 Sean Taylor at SUBLB2. 

Lewis is MLB1 and 97 Tyrel Dodson FA (20 Cowboys chems) at MLB2. 

I either get my two sublbs on the field or J.O.K. and Dodson. Rarely will the CPU put in Ray. I don't understand. 

Part of my confusion comes from having a very similar team in my son's PS5 (He doesn't like team building as much as me so I build he plays) and the MLB2 never plays over the MLB1 and on that one I have J.O.K. as SUB1 and 98 RoH Kam Chancellor at SUB2.   98 season pass Kuechly is MLB1 on that one (nms) and he's always on the field. 

So what am I doing wrong y'all? Why is my 99 MLB1 only on special teams in one scenario and the star of my LB core in the other is a season pass player.  I don't get it. Does the CPU sub in whomever it thinks is the best fit no matter how you stack your lineup?

I believe it's the formation you're calling. If you're running say Nickel, he ain't seeing the field. It'll be your SUB LBs. You try calling some different formations in practice mode to see?

SUBLB only applies to Nickel & Dime.

You should see Ray Lewis if you run 3-4 & 4-3, unless you have subbed him out of that specific formation.

If I run a particular formation a lot, it will usually save the personnel used.

I have not but I guess that's where I'm heading. I'm still pretty green where this game is concerned so I use Coach suggestions more than anything. A lot of zone cover 3 and when I run man I usually audible into cover 1 rather than use cover 2. I'm still using practice mode trying to get offensive plays and assignments and adjustments down (still don't know how to do custom stems yet, for example lol) and other than the basic controller layout I'm still completely ignorant to how everything works. I've tried HuddleGG but that's clearly for the advanced Madden user which I am not. Lol

Thank you. I'm gonna spend a few hours in practice mode on defense and see what I can work out.

Just put your mlbs in at sub lb if u want them on the field more.

NEVER ever ever use Coach Suggestions, you'd almost be better off calling some random plays.  There is no rhyme or reason to how EA determines what is an "appropriate" play call, but they're almost always wrong.  Trust your gut.  Find a formation you enjoy (or even prefer) and start calling some plays from that.  Maybe have one or two main formations and keep calling those plays until you are comfortable with them.

It is totally acceptable to run a small handful (perhaps 3-4) plays over and over and over, until you are so comfortable, you know them liek the back of your hand.  Rather than just calling stuff at random, i think you'll improve your game significantly by focusing on a few, rather than an entire playbook, most of which are garbage anyway.

What offense (or defense) are you in?  Cover 4 is your friend.  Man is wildly inconsistent.  Zones aren't great, but can be adjusted to not be terribly inconsistent.

Make sure you are using the Placement & Accuracy passing mechanic, can be changed in your settings.  I find "small" and 7/20 (default) are great place to start.  Heck, drop into Practice Mode for 15-20 minutes daily and just run the same play over and over, OFFENSE ONLY.  Get comfortable with the timing on your passes.  It'll take 10,000 throws before you start to get comfortable, so buckle up.  Madden Ultimate Team is not for the faint of heart.  This game is NOT easily accessible, especially to newer players.

The in-game information is woefully inadequate, so amazing you have already found your way here.  Without this great MUTgg community, i would have thrown in the towel years ago.  Welcome, sir.  Please ask questions, don't trust EA.  This is an objectively not good game.  But we're all dealing with it.

Thank you, I really have not taken advantage of the practice mode like I should have. And yeah I thought at the very least the CPU gave coach suggestions as something in the general ballpark of what might work for down and distance. I am and have been aware for awhile that in H2H coach suggestions guarantee a loss in most cases but I have noticed that I have better luck picking a suggestion then calling an audible. The CPU seems to reward me for that one. For example in the recent AKA Icons solos with Randall Cunningham, if I call a zone blitz (my favorite cuz I feel like I get extra pressure without giving up all my coverage) The Ultimate Weapon beats my coverage every time but if I audible out of it, even into a man double blitz, the CPU will typically reward me with a sack or a knockout or a pick. Not always but the CPU in that mode WILL punish you for spamming plays or not calling audibles.
