The effect of abilities in Madden has just taken the game over

So my PS2 is a 99 OVR in my lineup with 99 speed, 95 accel, 97 Agi, 96 jump 96 pro 99 man and.zone . He's 6'2 and he can tackle.

He gets DIZKO and FZKO for 0 , but I have Pat Pete with similar ratings but also  DOZKO, MZKO, FZKO all for 0 AP plus juke box, acrobat, PA,.Lurker all for 0 AP too...Deion and Jalen get universal CVG for 3 AP which is the best possible DB ability you can get...Jalen's play rec is low but gets boosted to 90....Cooper gets Deep zone KO for 1....

PS2 at 99 OVR doesn't get a spot simply because of abilities 

I remember when Madden was not like this.... it's more like an RPG than a football sim these days

It's not even an RPG, it's a better looking version of NFL Street or NFL Blitz. Card stats mean nothing at all, abilities are everything. It gets worse and worse with abilities every year. I just don't understand how people can spend money on this game or take it serious. Look at the field when you play someone, abilities and x factors all over the place.

It’s been like this for years. The moment they started making X-factors start on or x-factors as an ability it was only bound to go downhill as far as “simulation” football goes.

To be honest, the defense has been playing horrific all year.

The abilities barely matter for offense. 
If anything the game might be getting better.

exactly why I skipped this bs....CFB has abilities but in all honesty they are not OP. Madden is trash pokemon, Dragonball z, comic book superhero, rpg boo boo

Riiiiiight. Let me see you do a flawless run in house rules without any abilities on either side of the ball then report back to me on abilities barely mattering.

finally someone i can agree with . people that cannot see this are insane , we need madden 16 ultimate team type shit at least

I mean, I remember the days when cards were used based on their ratings alone.....There have always been AI dumb-out glitches but Madden used to be a lot more about real football strategy...half the kids playing today would have no idea how to coach a little league football team because there ain't no "KO" abilities or "angry runs" ....  no real athlete "lights up" when you unlock his X factor LOL....

You want angry runs? Get yourself a guy like Earl Campbell, John Riggins, even Walter, Jim Brown, or in today's game Derrick Henry.....use his base ratings and tendencies.....that's just my feelings on where the game should be versus where it's at.

With my history in sports and relationships with athletes, coaches,  and sports figures, I find that a real shame and a disrespect to John Madden at his core. 

EA has tried to compete with the "E sports" generation and in doing so, they figured they needed to cater to people who don't know the game that well - instead of forcing them to learn the game of football, they made it arcade style.....which again, is a shame IMO. And now EA is actually paying for it with their stock prices and backlash from their customers.

i hate to be like the old heads but this  'woke' generation is running everything we knew and love in the fucking ground.

Sadly,  for the most part (there's a small component of football strategy left and ratings do matter a big)....but really, you need to know what abilities offset others so that you don't get insta-shed....you need to know what motions and plays glitch out the AI, and yeah - you need the coins to acquire the cards that get those abilities for the lowest AP cost. 

Perfect example - I have  Combine Malcolm Jenkins - who on XBox now is selling for 6 mil (and just sold for 5.8 and 5.8)....But he gets I think 6 or 7 abilities (and 4 or 5 of them are great ones) for like a total of 2 AP. I have 2 CBs in Deion and Jalen Ramsey that get Universal Coverage - the single best coverage ability in the game - which covers all KO's, man and zone, short, mid, and deep.....GUARANTEED KOs if they are near the receiver. I mean....I have Patrick Surtain 2's LTD Honors card......Deep out zone KO ALONE on him is 3 AP.....and he's a 99 OVR in my lineup with whatever chems and boosts I am using.....but he sits because of abilities.

What does a flawless run have to with my opinion that the defensive abilities make the game more balanced now?
