Has Anyone Figured Out the Logic on Option Routes?

Mine might be: Don't run them. When there's a seam to streak through, the AI opts to go post when there's double coverage waiting, or hook when there's a guy waiting underneath. 

This is actually one of the simpler logics in football, as well as programmatically. I've traditionally avoided these plays because of erratic behavior on them.

Am I missing something, or are playbooks cluttered with option routes basically playbooks with missing pages?

Usually the bold route is for zone and the faded route is for man.   I've haven't noticed the inconsistency you call out with that logic but I'm not running option routes every play. 

I just know I have a pretty good idea what route the ai will take when I see what coverage my opponent is running and go from there.

There are often two, but sometimes three options. What additional conditions could there be?

Three options is similar, bold is against zone,  two faded are against man based on leverage.   Inside and outside leverage will determine the route executed by the AI.
