It’s the same concept as road rage. People would never act as they do online in person.
It’s embarrassing how people behave online and while driving. OP has a point. Talking shit to a stranger online over a video game doesn’t make you hard.

It’s hard not to care in some capacity for people. Whether it be online or IRL. Even if the motivations are largely self serving. I can’t be the only person who doesn’t like feeling like an ass but it happens sometimes. We must swim through an ocean of aholes to find the hidden gems or at least the aholes we relate to. We can only control ourselves, what we do and how we respond. Though I admit sometimes the shenanigans entertains me.

Seems to be a generational thing though. GameSpy was a program created before Xbox live took off because we all wanted to talk shit to each other in Halo 1. Badly.
We loved in person tournaments because of the shit talk. People could take some arrows back then, not anymore.

had a fun game the other day for the first time In a while. Bro was shutting me down on defense in the first quarter and I said “damn why you gotta be so freaking good I’m trying to score!?” on the mic. he ended up being chill despite his cheesy defense lol.. We ended up talking about the nfl and other ps5 games, wished each other luck on our teams playoff games and said “see ya around” at the end. Fun stuff

There's levels to trash talking. Look at the Philly fan who was trash talking the packers fan this week. His info got leaked everywhere on social media today. It's okay to talk shit in game, just don't make it personal.
