I only run sqauds with my boys, so I only have one side of the ball which is offense. My question is if I scrap together a budget defense is it doable or is it sweat gods from the get go? ( I average 24 points in squads) Just want to know if its worth the time!

Fantastic question -- i was doing the MUT Champs grind last year, but haven't really embarked upon it (yet) this cycle.  What do YOU consider to be worth your time?  There's dudes here who are ecstatic about earning 10k MUT coins... so it can be quite a spectrum.

Broadly speaking, YES it's possible to field a somewhat competitive squad without having to break the bank.  How much time are you willing to invest?  I think that's the real question here.  These Ranked rewards look enticing, but sounds liek a lot of time... and i have already been through at least one or two vicious cycles where MUT began to feel more liek a job than recreation or entertainment.  YMMV, but i suspect the skill gap (or lack there of) is NOT going to be your actual concern.

There's some good "budget beast" content out there from the Madden streamers.  I get off on theory crafting and team building, so don't hesitate to reach out if you wanna bounce around some ideas.  I'd just been casually tinkering for the past couple/few months, waiting and hoping the game would get to a state where it felt at least reasonably playable without all the various route stem glitches and usual nonsense.  Still an objectively terrible game, but i had a decent amount of fun over this past weekend.  Won a couple (2) PSN Tournaments against a handful of no-shows and some mediocre competition.  Five dollar gift cards from Sony feels more "worth my time" than chasing the latest MUT hamster wheel.  Go get em, you got this, dude.

BTW, there's quite a range of cards such as this, for ~100k (or less, is roughly where i place the budget beast category) that will get you 90+% of the performance at a mere fraction of the cost.  At the end of the day, i'm not sure how much it matters that extra couple/few percent.  I watch plenty of dudes who are nowhere near as good as my boosted 93 SPD Deion Sanders easily catch him from behind and haul him down, be it after an interception, or on kick / punt returns.

Give em hell, man.

The ratings seem to not even matter in Madden 25 anymore

Depends on what doable means to you. 10-12 wins yes. More than that will be tough. And I wouldn't underestimate the change from all-pro to All-madden. It is much better in my opinion, but the difference may take some getting used to.

MUT champs has been the easiest competition besides MUT draft for me.  Won 16 pretty easily the last 6 weeks in a row.  The rewards aren't great though, 100k/2td packs and a player that quicksells for 100k

H2H Seasons is pretty sweaty sometimes, the gauntlet is tough as well...but ranked seasons has been actually insane lately.

Thank you for your input! I do honestly have the time to invest. I have been for the past week trying to find ways to optimize my offense but I been seeing the rewards for like Ranked and Champs. They are both way better than squad rewards.

I have in the past treated MUT like a job for less of the rewards, so I'm just asking the community if it's worth the headache I will go through. I will be hitting you up, I feel like this year I am not picking the right players. I am currently sitting on around 1.5 M that I can play with.

Ok, thank you for your input. Do people drag out games or quit out after being down by a few possesions?

Another thing to bear in mind, the standard in champs isn't what it used to be as everyone auto qualifies.  I was in the same boat as you when my friends quit as squads never works for us (just boots us out) and I had no issues and I'm crap. Like really crap. At the time I was stuck in bronze in ranked and I hit double figure wins in champs without much issue. You'll be 100% fine

Went up 35-0 in a Seasons game last night. The guy would get down the field, but couldn’t close out drives when coverages got tight.

He wouldn’t quit. I guess he thought I was good enough that he was learning something from the experience, which I could take as a compliment.

Usually you get about 5 sweaty games in champs a week. Keep in mind that most players will have 90 speed WRs and Kittle/Pitts at TE. If you are on a budget, I would consider getting the cheapest, fastest players out there. If you havent already, grind out those AKAs and  grab Deion for free with tokens. Kam, Jaylon Johnson, D Ward, Bailey, Branch, Revis, and McKinney all have 90+ speed and are under 400k ATM. Grab 4 of those players and you have a pretty stacked Defense.

Awesome. Just making sure you know what you're getting into and obviously you do. Don't let anything deter you. I'm convinced you are about to turn your time investment into some actual success.

Step 1: get a QB with Gunslinger. Season 2 Penix Jr. is great as free option if you can fully upgrade him. There will be the random over-throws and some people will try to convince them that GS isn't worth the 4AP investment. I do not agree with that line of thinking. Nothing matters more than getting the ball out quickly, IMO. Even more important than velocity ability, such as Set Feet Lead, but I've only done minimal testing with Brock Purdy SFL X-factor.

Get some decently fast and tall receivers, height makes a pretty big difference this year. High point passes are stupid good again, they can bail you out, often. The ideal receiver profile is Randy Moss or Brian Thomas Jr. 6'3"+ ideally, at least until we get a Calvin Johnson Megatron AKA, we know it's coming.

Run game is fairly difficult this year, but can be an important aspect of H2H when dudes want to overcommit, dropping 8 into coverage, you can make dudes get out of Dollar by rumbling over them.

Defense is difficult. Extremely. Zones don't always play well, it's trivial to put together route combinations that exploit zone logic. Speed kills. Getting your DBs to 90 ZCV is really huge, it helps tremendously.

This is the best play in the game. Call it every single down.

Seriously.

  1. Put the cheat motion (Slot) receiver on a Slant
  2. Hike
  3. Win.

Get a good tight end and watch him cook on that post route. Works against basically everything, all defenses, man and zone. Tremendous spacing. Hope this helps.
