What is the best offensive and defensive playbook?
Assuming you're talking 24, the game has only been out for about a day so I doubt there's much consensus. If you're curious, I'd check and see if any comp players are saying anything on social media. But they might not say much if at all due to ladders this weekend. If you're willing to spend the money, perhaps check your favorite ebook service and see if they have anything for 24. It's going to take some time for the meta of 24 to develop. Until we have a good idea of what type of formations and plays will be meta, it's difficult to say which playbooks are the best.
Leading up to release, a lot of people were saying the jets playbook would be popular on offense. No idea how much of that was hype based off of what worked in 23 or how good it actually is in 24.
Now you may not be able to find anything online and that's ok. If all else fails and you're an experienced mut player, I would pick a playbook you're familiar with. If you're new to game, just pick your favorite team or a random one if you don't have one. You can always buy a new playbook if one turns out to be good
It really depends on you and what you like to run. Personally I think bunch, and trips will be the most effective formations this year. Jets is good, anything with a coach off the shanahan tree will also be good, so rams, packers, vikings, dolphins, bengals. Chiefs will probably always have some good stuff.
defensively, looks like 3-3 cub is back, make sure you get something with that, double mug. Nickel over or nickel 2-4, I like big nickel as a solid hybrid run d that can also defend the pass well. I like 3-4 to stop runners better than 4-3. Might as well make sure you’ve got DB fire, and spinner too. 46 defense is usually pretty popular, I liked raiders last year had all the above stuff, chiefs is good too.

I still need to acquire a new defensive playbook, my Niners schemes are familiar, but lacking 3-3 Cub and such, this is fantastic advice thank you.
As far as offense, the above recommendations are pretty great. In no particular order, here's a few that might be of interest, but ultimately it depends on your personal preferences, how you liek to play. Before sharing my random list of gibberish, I can tell you how i started: default 49ers, so i have both offense and defense as my starter kit, from there i ended up building the Jets offensive playbook and finally today i managed to purchase Patriots (Spread) playbook with some unique formations i want to tinker with for a couple/few hundred coins, was too good a deal to pass up.
I want 46 for Defense, i think. Or maybe Chiefs.
- 49ers (possibly one of the better, if not THE best run schemes in the game)
- Ravens (if you liek to run with yer QB)
- Jets (this feels liek home to me after using Saints for most of 2k23)
- Packers
- Bengals
- Patriots
Don't just take my word for it, here's some further help and guidance if you wanna invest ~15 minutes, or more seeing various perspectives and overviews:

I recently (last week) made the jump from primarily using Jets offensive playbook to Patriots, namely for that Trips TE formation. Trying to make that my new scheme. Up until now, i mostly just call a random smattering of plays, i know i'm still a n00b for approaching the game in such a manner, but making decent progress for just my second MUT squad/season.
On opposite side of the ball, i've mostly settled on using the Alternate 46 playbook on defense, it has a ton of formations. Chiefs defense also feels second to none. I heard a bunch of folks lately are running more actual linebackers and blitzing a ton, from 3-4 or 4-3 (also Even 6-1) if you are into the Cover 0, all out blitz meta. Good luck, hope that helps get you started!
What playbook has the most RPO's?
