Throwing to Cross Routes?

Throwing to cross routes, such as the one on Cross Drag from Pistol Bunch TE, always seem to be a 70/30 bad/good split. Either it’s dead on them, or more commonly sails way over their heads, even when passing it to 6’7 Carmichael. I’ve tried throw leading them upfield, over the head, I have tried keeping them going towards the sideline, over their head. The only thing that seems to work is low precision passing it, but that completely removes YAC.

is this simply a skill issue, am I missing some easy fix like a shorter receiver, or is this a common catch hole?

Have you tried not doing any pass leading? I sometimes forget that you can just pass normally and it will be a good ball.

Also, after looking at the play, I would just pass lead it back a tiny bit so the receiver doesn’t keep running up the field and get KO’d.

Been an issue for years I've tried gifted wrapped in past maddens to no success , next ability to try would be sideline deadeye.

Try PA X Cross, it’s the best play in the game if you know what to do. I can always get people on the this play 2 or 3 times on the main route before they (try to) cover it. The main route is the TE cross, which gets about 25+ yards per pass and burns the cpu. I would run route tech for max benefits. The next route is like a zig fade mix, and it toasts corners if you have a high agility, cod, route tech, or speed. The other route is a weird RB out which is actually really clean, and gets you a nice few yards if you need to throw the ball away. You also always roll out automatically towards your receivers so you can scramble for some yards or throw the ball better in their direction. It also has 3 TEs to audible or block if you want, (I always run one on the base cross, block the middle one, and audible an out on the third one.) And the best part about this play is that someone is ALWAYS open. The only way to cover the cross is to move a LB away from the RB route, or containing the scramble, giving you two options. Or they pull their safety down from the deep route, which leaves the recover wide open for an easy TD. In summary, run this play, easy burn CPU, TD or 25+ yards every time.
