So after reading several posts about certain TT being favored over others, I started wondering if there is a method to the madness. So I did some research. I can't vouch for the credibility of these sites but it made sense. The first website gives some history for each team, or potential reasons why their popularity is so high. It mostly relies on how long a team has been around, who their star players have been, their amount of winning or losing and perhaps the most important factor, geography. The second link has all of the teams with the numbers a bit off since they used primarily Facebook as a measuring tool but the rankings still the same.
The cowboys have 8.5 million fans world wide, followed by the Patriots with 7 million, Steelers with 6.3 mil and Packers at 5.2. Then the rest of the field goes down to 4.1 million and lower. The poor Jaguars are last with a dismal 630k fans. Now this is not to say that all of these fans play Madden but I would assume the proportion of players would be similar. In other words the Jaguars have the least fans and I would say Jaguars fans probably make up the smallest percentage of MUT players. Now EA is no dummy, Im sure they have mined our data to figure out or favorite teams. Im sure they also have a metric over what fans buy the most packs. Therefore it would make sense the Cowboys always getting more cards in promos than other teams.
Now the outliers are always the less popular teams who still get cards. Team like the 49ers, Raiders and Raven who have quite a few fans but are not in the top 6 teams. This boils down to how teams construct their roster. All three of these teams have made playoff pushes in the past 20 years by added seasoned veterans in the twilight of their career. Therefore many of these players get these chems by default because they spent a year with one of these clubs. Example: Randy Moss gets a card because of his dominant years as a Vikings and his record year with the Patriots, not his 28 receptions and 3 TD as a member of the 49ers. Now some of the other top teams get the shaft, but that come down to what player rights can they get and for what price. I know GB fans always want a Favre but EA can't do anything if Favre won't sell the rights to his likeness.
So next time you complain, direct your complaints at the fans of the top teams, not EA. EA is just following the breadcrumbs of cash left by Cowboys fans. LOL
