while everyone is focusing on TOTY - try to scoop up ULs for lower prices, especially the cards to build sets not just the 97s

once toty busts everyones wallet - they will begin slicing the coin cost of toty players in order to move funds back towards the future ULs

i plan on buying the 87, 91, and some 95s (depending on price) ULs as toty is out and those are dropping in price - in order to put them back on the shelf for the shiny new UL must have players that EA will use to boost pack sells after toty has completed

that way you use the cheapest 87, 91, and 95 ULs you can buy - hold them, wait for new ULs, and then complete the sets of those new releases upon the immediate time of those players sets being released - thus gaining the highest value possible those ULs

Great post. I love it when people share their thoughts for purpose of good discussion. So I will offer some considerations and contrasts of my own to debate :

1) what to sell and what will drop: it will differ, we have a relatively rich Mut economy this year due to all the blunders that means the most meta cards will be expensive unless supplied in quantity. That means prime LTDs llikely to stay expensive oop until a better card comes along or they get redeuxed (e.g. aj green, et al). 
 

2) TVP / TOTY / Season 4: tvp going away should drop cards that have no/little in  game value (either lineup or for sets), i see especially at risk older promos (like ghosts, ZC) that people are moving on from. TOTY i have a slightly different recollection that they were cheapish as you get one or two free ones from totw solos et al. TOTY will release with Season 4 at same or close to same time and I am pretty sure latest then they will drop the market for training as we should get 98s and EA won’t want them to all be 1m plus i guess at least so market will start to go down towards issuing us more ULs and 99s 

3) UL set investing: generally agree but remember two elements, one, some of them like the 87 are above training already and most importantly , two, we will get 98s I expect either this week or next and those will need different set pieces (i am still stuck with a rather large amount of legend pieces i never sold)

Overall, i have for myself cleaned a bit the binder and sold some non starter and back-ups but not the starting line-up but I have a decent stack of coins to likely see the year out, especially if makeet drops more. 
 

If making coin is priority and you have stamina to invest time, the. selling could be a good idea though as we may not see 2tp per anymore this year …

I agree with all of your points here, and would add that the "elephant in the room" is EA themselves.  Look at what they did to the UL set pieces this weekend.  On Friday night I played the auction house to get set pieces to build a UL Legend on Saturday.  I was able to get enough 87's at right around $9K each, when the median price was $14K-ish.   I also bought  enough 91's to build 2 sets, and was able to get them at $55K-ish, when the median was just over $60K, so I happy with that result as well.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, I wake up to find out that EA put a pay bundle in the Marketplace for 7-91's, and now all the sudden you could get 91's for $45K in the Auction House, so I gave back most of the "savings" that I realized from the 2 hours of work the previous night.

EA is gonna do what is best for EA, and they can throw a monkey wrench in the best laid "investment planning", and it really cracks me up to use that expression in a video game where there is NO actual return on investment.

I kinda believe in it but I'm not selling shit this time. Not risking it

I keep my team BND. Nothing to sell.

Yeah I'm rarely on when promos first drop , that works if you can do it.  I dont listen to YouTubers with regard to the market,  I do my own thing,  so I was responding to OPs post about listening to them or not... that's my opinion though.  Have seen a lot of people sell their team and then not be able to play with a decent team for weeks . What's the point of that?

But it's not your team that way.  AND you can't build a 98 OVR with a few cheap/old.LTDs and BNDs.

Also, I think what OP was getting at,  the point of selling off the team,  is not spending on cheap LTDs even if they are loaners. 

I could build any style team and. It would be what most peopl  consider a Gd squad , with the.non-lineup cards in my binder but I wouldn't because it's not the team.I built that I enjoy using.  

The issue is,.selling the team u enjoy playing with a d then possibly not being able to get them back for less or at a profit

I agree with you that it's not my team at the moment, but it will be my team again by the end of the week when TVPs leave and prices drop. Also, you are right that I did not risk selling off the team to have a non-competitive team.  However, I have been able to build the 98 OVR team with almost all BNDs (e.g. Super Bowl 97s) and "rental" LTDs (like Greenlaw, Seau, Vea, Grimm, Fournette, Cunningham, BoJack), BND motivators and good strat items.

That strategy works but most people looking to sell off their team for a market crash I think may not have the coins to go get a lot of LTDS in the meantime. 

Personally I usually hold them too long and end up QS them. I souks have sold  Bruce Matthews as soon as Grimm was revealed but I didn't.
