what are the must have abilities and upgrades I need to prioritize? any advice would be great

Just upgrade your guards, I’d try to get 91 Randall McDaniel and  92 Trevor Jenkins

Upgrade your guards, if you use more than 1 TE you need an upgrade there as well for TE2/3 based on the sets you run, same with FB.

CH2/ZC sets should get you those upgrades for cheap as long as you build and then sell the master. to recoup the cost.

Jim Taylor is a great FB and only 100K for his 93, you can even build him and power him up to the 91 which will get you free honorary lineman on him and then sell the 93 to recoup some of the cost if you like, the 91 is still a very good card with 90 speed.

Or get Okoye 91 for 81K
