Tell me it gets easier as the year progresses. I have a pretty nice stack of coins at the moment but not sure the best way to build a squad. I’m hoping there are NAT’s that come available when the game actually launches as well as team captains.. right now, besides rookie premieres, Worthy, and limited Mayfield, my team is crap. I don’t need the best team in the game to be competitive, but gotta figure out the best way to maximize coins/time…
I am a NMS player who only plays offline challenges and solo content since Madden 17. I was never able to field a competitive team without spending money during the year.
It only gets worse in Head to Head as the season progresses becausd your opponents will have the most recent limited cards and you'll have to wait weeks to field those cards trying to get them as NMS.
I've played both ways, normally spend money, but I have done a couple NMS. I always ended the season with about the same kind of team.
Spending just gets you a better team faster.
Its very easy to use coins wisely and you can have comp team. you DONT need the newest/shiny card. Just wait a month and prices go down.

I’ve always been what people consider a whale… Have spent more than I care to admit. A few things from last year put a terrible taste in my mouth so I’m not wanting to put anything into the game this year. We will see how it goes. If it is just brutal, at this point, the game is easier then ever for me to walk away from.

Invest in ltds when cheap and roll as many as you can, grind h2h and avoid the meta. You'll be able to win a lot more if youre rocking a lower overall team with your own scheme, a better full blown pay to play team will beat you using the same plays as them. Find things that maximize your time for coins so youre not in an endless slog of offline stuff, and limit your time so you don't hate it all and want to spend. I was a 96 overall when I quit before Asa and was maybe playing 30 min a day to tear through dailies
Having patience is the key. I usually just stack coins until Christmas promo before I start dropping coins on players. The cards right now-christmas are quickly outdated and not worth dropping any coins on imo. Atleast zerochill cards can maintain their worth/playing time until the SB promo drops so thats usually when i start investing on a team. But yeah just doing the basics like challenges/solos/snipe cards/buying the "dip" on promo cards crash to resell a week later for profit/etc usually has me set on 20+mil by january. Dont give in to urges to having the best cards or spending your coin stack is the biggest hurdle.

I’m at 580k coins with a 79 OVR lineup. Missed the Platinum Pack glitch. Haven’t spent any of my Deluxe Edition-awarded Points yet. I’m not sure how many hours I’ve spent playing.
I’m going to guess you’ll see the difference when the gate for the chum opens on Thursday. They’ll be behind and see it immediately, and will overpay for incremental improvements and theme team players. Those few hundred thousand could jump up real quick when the typical MUT player isn’t as savvy as the folks that joined during the Pregame period, and now those 70-73 OVR players start selling for 8-to-20 times the price floor.
This is my first time playing Deluxe Edition, and I would have passed on it again had it not been a seven-day early-play period. That kind of head start has been huge. I know it will yield results by this weekend.
Scheme over team.
Best thing you can do is spend your time developing a really strong scheme, not trying to get coins. The games I remember the most are the ones where someone comes out with a shit team and just tears me up cos their scheme is just on point.
Focus on your scheme, and enjoy smashing people with an average team while they spend their money buying a team they don’t know how to use.
my highest card is 81 and i bust almost every godsquad i meet, especially rn its easy to win those games

Oh I 100% agree with this.. I refuse to run meta but typically cook something nice up every year. This year will be no different.

Glad to hear it man. Still trying to decide what I want to run myself this year
My takeaway from last year is that it doesn’t matter how good my team is, I still play at the same win percentage. This year it was fairly easy with the points to build a 50 / 50 TT. I’m just going to rock that; use BND’s that I get and upgrade the TT when cards come out or prices go down for the higher end cards.

You can go the NMS route and be successful. You just need to have a good understanding of what you need from the players on your roster at each position. Not every stat is an absolute neccessity. There are plenty of players out there tthat are underrated and will work well. Once again, you need to understand what players work best for your scheme just like in real life. Everyone has heard of that underrated player who can't transcend every scheme but can be a great fit in specific ones.
