It's infuriating how many times I've watched my Cover 4 (shaded UP) get absolutely COOKED by simple streaks or whatever.
And I've got 99 SPD DBs for days, so they shouldn't be getting beat that badly in a foot race. Heck, I've even got Universal Coverage on a bunch of them. GRRR. 🥵
You're not alone. Zones still play terribly.
glad it isnt some adujustment i am not making. bummmer that it happens, though.
are you base aligned or pressed?

Do not shade up, it causes the DB's to back pedal very slowly. And if you are running Match coverage you will get burned through route combos, try running cover 4 shaded down to turn off the Match coverage

Base aligned pressed

that explains it. in press they’ll get beat randomly and certain formations the outside corner is between the 2 and 3 wr on the boundary so the outside receiver already has leverage.

Better to not press in db fire?

Thank you, maybe that is what caused Ramsey to turn slowly and watch the receiver streak past him, giving up 3-4+ steps before he decided to react. Playing Cover 4 Quarters out of Even 6-1 but mostly Cover 4 Drop from Dime 1-4.
Curious about Nickel 3-3, but I'd need to switch playbooks.

Yeah shading up does the exact opposite of what you would want it to do. Go figure its EA

Awesome, I learned fairly quickly that turning Hard into Cloud Flats was bogus, but never realized it was borked for the rest of Zones, as well. THANK YOU, I had no idea how it why I was giving so many of these up, seemed at random. Both my Safeties would just stand and look, uggh.
You just saved me so much pain and suffering. Shading UP in Man also broken?

Depends on the formation. If the outside cb is between the 2 and 3 WR i’d stay backed off until you get to the red zone or manually back him off a few yards.

I believe its just in zone, i dont run man so i could be wrong though. I do know if you run a zone coverage, then shade your coverage, then man up a defender, that man up defender will play whatever shade you called before manning him up

I could never be quite sure if those global coverage settings would stick, I'm in the habit of redoing them if I have the time in between snaps. Need to get better about doing it individually. I haven't fully memorized ALL the coverage adjustments.
Playing mostly Zone, was almost exclusively Cover 4, but lately everyone has seen so much Cover 4, they've got plenty of beaters to dial up, comeback whatever. Trying to work on more Cover 2 if I can get Zone drops dialed in. Some opponents are difficult to read.
