It when you fair catch a punt or kick and you decide to either place kick or drop kick and attempt a field goal and if you make it you get 3 points. Its basically a stupid field goal. It is probably used for instances where there is 1 second on the clock and you have no other choice cause hail mary's aren't too efficient.

Here's an example:
4th and 10 for Team A on their 15 yard line. Team A is leading 28-26. On the last play of the game, the short punt goes to A's 35 yard line where the Team B returner gives a valid fair-catch signal and fair catches the ball on A's 35. No playing time left on the clock.
The only option to extend the game is a fair-catch kick directly from A's 35 yard line. Here Team B could go for a field goal (only, no scrimmage play!), and try to win the game 29-28.
I would also like to know, if this is coded and working :)
