First NIL killed college football now it's killing Madden

I don’t disagree that pay was already happening and was going to happen more out in the open. The Transfer portal should also have strict rules and transparency all offers are public etc… and contracts holding players and coaches to their teams. I like the sport it felt more pure without the holding out for better contracts and whining for a trade and all the mess that comes with pro athletes. Rules to protect fairness and parity within the sport should have been drafted and agreed to first. No contact with another teams players before they are in the transfer portal or big punishments. Some sort of salary cap protecting the less wealthy programs or a pot that is contributed to by and for all schools that everyone get an equal team pay amount from. I watch college because it’s college not because it’s another pro league.

I am mentioning this because EA can make MOST any player a card that they want. Retired or not. Legend or not. Its already paid for in the contract deal with the NFLPA.

So, when EA isn't introducing new cards or names? Its usually not because they dont have the rights. They just decided not to give that player a card or include them in the game.

I really couldn't tell you the small list of current and former players that are not a part of the NFLPA. Its small. If you see an authentic NFL jersey for a certain player, they're in the NFLPA.

This is completely incorrect and false. Once a player retires, they are no longer part of the NFLPA unless they for whatever reason decide to continue to be.  This is why when a player retires in Madden, they usually have a short amount of time to release a tribute card before paperwork is filed, and then they're no longer allowed to use their likeness for profit unless they individually sign a deal with the legend, or in many cases there are firms that handle retired player rights for these reasons such as the FGA, of which Madden is partnered with. 

Really, truly, you could have done the tiniest amount of research instead of pulling something out of your butt and misinforming people. You really think EA has the rights to almost every player? Yeah, okay. Cause they TOTALLY decided to not release 3 different Brady cards this year because they just felt like it. Even though he would have absolutely moved packs. Nah, they just didn't feel like it.

I'll try not to be an ass about it, but this isn't correct either. The urban legend about EA having "48 hours after a player announces retirement to put his card in the game, then it can no longer be used" is exactly that, an urban legend. There is no legal specification (e.g. NFLPA, NIL, FGA) that has anything to do with the timing on tribute cards and likeness in video games.

Why? Because furthermore "paperwork being filed" for retirement is also false. Retirement papers haven't been required since prior to the last CBA in 2019. The only thing that optionally gets filed for is early pension, which would automatically kick in after one year has elapsed since a player was last active in the league.

NIL is good for college football. You can talk about the same schools always having an advantage, but Bama was the best team in the nation for years, once transfers +  NIL kicked in and players weren’t forced to stay in one place, a larger number of players were able to move around

and honestly, these athlete treat their sport like a full time job. They should get paid for it, regardless of how it affects the other aspects of college football

They should get paid, but there should be a strict rules and each deal should be made public. Make the process 100% transparent and equal to keep what created the greatness of college football before the modern era intact.
