Here is the absolute dream scenario Power Running formation, with all Abilities for each player. Some Abilities cannot be afforded early in the cycle when Ability Points are at a premium, so it's more a case of gradually working towards this across the year. First of all the formation to use is i-Form Tight, and I'll explain why.
Some Power Runners who only have a basic grasp of Madden use Goal Line, which has LT, LT, LG, C, RG, RT, RT, RT eight man Offensive Line, with QB, FB, HB. Notice all three TEs have been Subbed Out and replaced by OTs, so that all eight players on the Offensive Line are genuine Offensive Linemen. This is definitely the thing to do, because it beefs up the Run Blocking considerably, but this formation is terrible for two reasons.
Firstly, with all three TEs Subbed Out, and no WR on the field, it is completely one dimensional, if you need to Pass, or you simply want to because your opponent has come out in a Run Stuff Defensive formation, the only Eligible Receivers are the RB & FB, so if your RB is a Power Back who can't Catch, and your FB is a pure Lead Blocker who can't Catch either, you can't Pass.
The second problem is bigger, it's the Hat Count. Goal Line has 10 players in the Power Running Offense, with one spectator, the QB, against 11 Run Defenders, so it's 11v10 in favour of your opponent. The i-Form Tight Formation takes out the 8th Offensive Lineman and replaces him with a WR, which is a game changer, not only can you now Pass if you want or need to, it also resolves the Hat Count problem.
The WR takes at least two Defenders out of the Run Defense, (the CB lined up against him, and a Deep Safety guarding the End Zone). You now have 9 players in the Power Running Offense, against 9 Run Defenders, so the Hat Count is 9v9. If your opponent comes out with two deep Safeties, the Hat Count goes into your favour at 9v8.
i-Form Tight Formation Dream Scenario Lineup
LT at TE with Nasty Streak
LT with Post Up
LG with Post Up
C with Post Up
RG with Post Up
RT with Post Up
RT at TE with Nasty Streak
FB with Nasty Streak
HB with Freight Train
QB
WR with Honorary Lineman
Post Up on all 5 Offensive Linemen is an extreme luxury, which allows you to hit absolutely any A, B or C gap with both Offensive Linemen being dominant on their Double Team Block, and Nasty Streak makes the OTs at TE on either end of the Line dominantly win their Blocks against LBs or DBs. It is extremely important to use the "Double Team" and "ID The Mike" facilities in the Pre-Snap Menu, to make full use of the Post Up Abilities on your Linemen. When hitting an A, B or C gap, ID The Mike as a Defensive Lineman, so that both Defensive Linemen at the Point Of Attack are Double Teamed. When hitting a D gap, (Perimeter Stretch outside the TE), ID The Mike as a LB on the side of the field you are Running towards.
The final piece of the jigsaw is the WR. The dream scenario is Calvin Johnson, because he has good Run Block, but in the early part of the cycle I use a TE at WR, to get Honorary Lineman for dominant Run Blocking against DBs, and to provide the Passing option if my opponent completely sells out to stop the Run. Once Calvin Johnson gets close to 99 OVR, he usually gets Honorary Lineman, then you're really in business. Happy Rushing.
