Why do you still play?

This goes out to all the people who religiously run meta offenses and defenses, with mostly exactly the same players.

6-1 and dollar on defense; and gun Bunch offset with some cheesy wing and trips RPOs mixed in…

Every time I sign on, that is all I play against each and every game. Most also have the exact same teams give or take players they couldn’t afford… and I just ask myself every time, why do you still play? 

I know twitch and YouTube + Clint’s DDA have bred a whole new kind of player who thinks they’re a professional madden player or video gamer, when in reality they’re just running meta without the possibility of ever running it better than a professional… but even then it just seems so incredibly mundane and boring. I also rarely lose to the meta, basically running whatever I want to run that day, so it doesn’t even actually make a huge difference.

Madden is bad enough as it is, without having the abysmal issue of playing basically the exact same guy every game.

I want to understand why people play this way, and why people have abandoned the old ways of MUT where you’d build a team of players you actually liked, and come up with your own scheme based on your favorite style of football. I miss that a lot!

That’s fair, I don’t have time to play anything other than some casual Madden either…

what I don’t get is why people would use that time to all become the exact same player with the exact same scheme and exact same team, its incredibly boring just to PLAY against people doing the same thing all game every as each other. I can’t even imagine how boring it would be to actually run the garbage and play someone else running that same garbage virtually every game.

Yeah, madden/MUT has always been who can exploit/cheese/glitch/motion/scheme the AI better and who has the bigger, stronger or faster players.  With YouTube, ebooks and the "meta" each year coupled with EA themselves just being on autopilot this game has hit an all time low.  Which is why we get experiences like this. Same Off/Def sets every game, same exact teams every game, same underwhelming experience every game, win or lose.  I would love to blame it all on the community for being lazy and unoriginal but most just don't want to lose a game and have seen how overpowering those things can be, so that's just everyone's default now.

There are people that only get their hit of endorphins from winning and they don’t care about anything else, so the meta plays and the meta teams it’s that they don’t care about this game for all it can be its only fun if they can prove their better than other people by beating them. I get tired of the same old stuff quick so I coils never do that. I run what I want and play who I want, but I’m also not great because I don’t pay attention to scheme so I only go h2h for House Rules I like like GF Where I put my team building skills against them in an environment with short games.

But people still make their own choices, and the desperation the reeks from the madden community now is just pathetic. there has definitely always been people trying to find the best ways to play, but there used to be some semblance of sportsmanship and competitiveness. people nowadays just want to watch their computer do literally everything.

the thing I don’t think they realize, is they aren’t better than anyone.

if you run the meta, with someone else’s ability set-up and the players they told you to pick.. you’re literally just a clone. I have never once felt bad about losing to a meta player, nor do I feel good when I beat one. they’re net-zero losers because I’m just playing the CPU at that point.

I will never be impressed by someone who just straight up copy and pastes someone else’s whole thing because they’re no good.

It sucks to speculate on the underlying cause but I believe it has to do with the shrinking testorone levels that is an epidemic. They are testosterone deficient so winning a game is how they feel more like a man and if they lose they aren’t a man in their heads. This copy paste stuff is a result of that because anything to avoid losing including running the same team and same players as everyone else that they found on YouTube. Just a theory of course.
