pretty sure it's the slinger 1 but not sure if the times have changed

Aye, much has changed since last year, when Slinger 1 was the obvious choice for short-mid passes, with Slinger 3 being the best deep release.
This year it's that buttery smooth Traditional 4 release that remains one of the best. Although, if more QBs got Traditional 1, i think that would be the clear "best" -- however, i know nothing and the free S4 Joe Montana was the only Trad1 card i've tried this year. Don't snooze on Doug Williams if you need an S-tier signal caller at budget prices, i think he's well under ~200k lately.
Seems people are having Doug fire sales, for ~150k that's easily THE best QB in that price range, IMO. Bo Jackson (with that same Trad4 release) is widely regarded as THE best QB in the entire game. Not sure it's even close. Avoid Mahomes and that weird Slinger 2, the ball takes way too long to come out. And yes, you should still be running Gift Wrapped on your QB, even this late in the year. Especially if you ever hope to high point any passes.
Please don't just take my word for it, here's the QB Styles chart i've been referring to for this year: https://mutvault.com/QBStyles.html

I didn't deserve this good of a response. thank you

Ohhh maaan, we're all so ridiculously damaged from years, if not decade(s), of mistreatment by giant companies such as EA. Not only did you deserve an even better response than I'm able to provide, well... we all deserve to have in-game information that actually makes some dang sense. Having to do so much outside homework merely to understand how the game plays and works (or doesn't), is something i'd expect from Soulsborne or Bloodborne, those truly difficult single-player experiences that do not hold your hand.
I thought we were signing up for simulation fatball, oof. Good luck, Pomp sir! Hope you find that helpful, please do not hesitate to ask any further questions, this community has taught me SO much since I started playing Madden again, the least I can do is attempt to pay it forward. You are not alone, my friend.
For reference purposes, the typical ability stack that most people desire to run on their quarterbacks is termed the "god-stack" which comprises: Set Feet Lead (or Pass Lead Elite, velocity abilities are a must on any QB, don't use one without SFL or PLE), Gunslinger, Hot Route Master and Gift-Wrapped. The lower the AP cost the better.
However, Traditional 4 style QB release is so buttery smooth and quick, you can run it with or without Gunslinger and it's just fine. I am currently using Bo Jackson (QB) without Gunslinger. This is not something that's feasible with many/most other releases.
