Non-24 MUT Player Question - How are you all acquiring coins?

I was an avid MUT player for the last 9 years, but started to slowly fall off in recent years as I felt the game was trending more towards pay-to-compete and not on creating a better football game.  This year, even though my boy was on the cover, I didn't even buy the game.  I told myself I would jump in around Thanksgiving or Christmas when the game price itself dropped, but then I kept watching the Bills Theme team prices, and realized I'd never be able to build even half of that squad.

From the outside looking in, it seems that a lot of cards are retaining their value and are over 300k for 95+ cards.  Usually, those card prices nose dive around Christmas and you can build a competitive team rather easily.  

Did something change this year, or am I just reading the site wrong?

No no no, you are absolutely not reading the site wrong.  While i don't have a ton of (recent) historical Madden/MUT context, as i basically started with the plan you described above, my 10 year old son convinced me we needed to check out Madden `23 (and NBA2K `23) during some Black Friday sales, at that point i felt we got ~$35 worth of "value" out of Madden... now here i am a year+ later and I've become a full-blown MUT-addict.  The game is more pay to win than it has ever been, IMO.  EA had stated this was a "make or break" year for them with Madden and i'm a buffoon and thought that actually meant something.

Well, it does/did, but it means that some middle management are potentially losing their jobs if they don't extract ever single dollar from the Madden community.  Overall gameplay could be really decent this year, perhaps as good as it's been in forever, but abilities drive everything, it's basically ALL that matters in the game right now.

There's some $25 cash (err... Madden Points, because we have to pretend this isn't a casino for kids) packs that might be decent value to get someone started, but i cannot in good conscience advise anyone to dump cash into these virtual playing cards: https://www.mut.gg/news/road-to-sb-starter-teams-madden-nfl-24/

Beyond that, i think there are also some theme team specific pack offers/options, but they might be a bit stale or out of date at this point.  I'm a life long 49ers fanatic, however i grew up smack dab in the middle of Bills Mafia territory, so your Buffalo squad will forever hold a special place in my heart.  Glad Josh managed to avoid the Madden Curse.

Hope i've somewhat addressed your question(s) and/or concerns.  Happy to discuss further, i've got tons of strong opinions.  Hard to honestly recommend this game in current state.  It's nothing close to simulation fatball.

they are slower with ovr upgrades this year too……so those 95’s were god squad for long ass time

OVR program sets take any card from a ovr, so the cost retains a bit. 
 

This week will have 97 OVR’s that will require any 5 94’s to complete. 94’s will hold a bit of value until 97’s become that main upgrade OVR. 
 

95’s have been holding value because of the Pat Mahomes 99.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- make or break  was internal, not front facing and I think the community latched onto it quite strongly for what it was

Guilty as charged, that was never intended for us, the community.  It was always from a financial standpoint.  It became abundantly clear that EA has given up on even trying to pretend (that this shit is NOT pay to win), every single move they make is greedy and/or grimy in some manner.  The modern economy is very much structured around "whale hunting" -- trying to extract as much as humanly possible from the 1% of players who spend 80+% of the money on this game and was never intended for us regular guys.

I’m probably in that classification. My girlfriend has spent quite a bit on my team tho, more than I have in fact, so technically shes the money spender lol
